Job summary

Gonzalez Companies in the Midwest is seeking a Project Engineer (III/IV) - Water/Wastewater to lead design, modeling, and coordination for water and sewer systems. You will guide engineers and coordinate with clients and regulators on projects from concept to permitting.

The role emphasizes strong analytical skills, leadership, and a commitment to quality and safety in infrastructure projects across the Greater St. Louis area.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, or related field.
• EI/EIT required; PE lic. preferred or in progress.
• 4–8+ years in water/wastewater design, permitting, or construction support.
• Proficient with hydraulic modeling tools (WaterGEMS, SewerGEMS, InfoWater, SWMM).
• Strong AutoCAD/Civil 3D; BIM/Revit knowledge preferred.
• Experience with pump systems, process equipment, site layout, and utility design.
• Excellent analytical, project management, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong leadership, communication, and client coordination abilities; mentoring junior engineers.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, analysis, and technical oversight of water and wastewater facilities.
• Prepare and review calculations, drawings, specifications, and technical reports.
• Conduct hydraulic modeling and system analysis to optimize water distribution and sewer networks.
• Manage field investigations, site assessments, and construction observation; provide technical guidance to junior engineers.
• Develop project scopes, cost estimates, schedules, and proposals; support project management activities.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams to ensure integrated and compliant project designs.
• Review and ensure compliance with design standards, regulatory requirements, and permitting processes.
• Serve as a point of contact for clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies; communicate technical information clearly.
• Mentor and support junior staff; uphold quality control and company engineering standards.

We are currently seeking a Project Engineer (III/IV) - Water/Wastewater to help serve our connection of clients and community. The base salary range for this role is indicated in the posting. This range reflects the company’s good faith estimate of the compensation for this position at the time of posting. Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, skills, qualifications, internal equity, and geographic location.

Your Primary Responsibilities will include

What you'll need

• Proficiency with hydraulic modeling tools (WaterGEMS, SewerGEMS, InfoWater, SWMM, etc.).
• Strong experience with AutoCAD/Civil 3D; BIM/Revit knowledge preferred.
• Demonstrated experience with pump systems, process equipment, site layout, and utility design.
• Excellent analytical, project management, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong leadership, communication, and client coordination abilities; capable of mentoring junior engineers.
