Job summary

PGTEK is seeking an entry-level Infrastructure / HPC Support Engineer to join our growing team. The role focuses on deployment, system support, and hardware troubleshooting within HPC environments, with nationwide travel to customer sites and weekends at home.

Strong IT interest and a recent Bachelor's degree or entry-level certifications (CompTIA A+/Network+/Security+) are encouraged. On-the-job training will advance responsibilities in Linux and HPC spaces.

Qualifications

  • Experience with Linux operating systems (RHEL/CentOS/Ubuntu).
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, dynamic environments with teamwork.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with moving HPC materials, equipment, and racks into datacenter environments.
  • Perform basic system administration across Linux systems integrated with Windows Server AD.
  • Execute top-of-rack cabling per configuration and deployment documents.
  • Manage OS compliance, patching, and upgrades.
  • Conduct hardware maintenance, diagnostics, and troubleshooting across architectures.
  • Maintain application integrity; support new installations and customer requirements.
  • Maintain and test backup and recovery procedures.
  • Operate lifts and move components up to 90 lbs with assistance; 50 lbs solo.
  • Work on ladders and follow all safety protocols.

Job description

We are seeking an entry-level (or Junior-level) Infrastructure / HPC Support Engineer to join our growing team. This role focuses on solution deployment, system support, and hardware troubleshooting within HPC environments. This person will travel nationwide to various customer sites, so you must be comfortable jumping on a plane often. You would be home every weekend.

While prior hands-on experience is not required, a strong passion for Information Technology is essential. We’re looking for bright, motivated individuals with a recent Bachelor’s degree or entry-level IT certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, or Security+.

You will receive on-the-job training, and those who demonstrate aptitude and initiative will quickly take on more advanced responsibilities within the Linux and HPC space.

Salary: 70K

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with moving HPC materials, equipment, and racks into place within datacenter environments
  • Perform basic system administration duties across Linux systems integrated with Windows Server Active Directory domains
  • Execute top-of-rack cabling per configuration and deployment documentation
  • Manage operating system compliance, patching, and upgrades
  • Conduct hardware maintenance, diagnostics, and troubleshooting across multiple architectures
  • Ensure application integrity and availability; support new application installations, upgrades, and customer requirements in classified environments
  • Maintain and test backup and recovery procedures
  • Safely operate specialized lifts and move heavy components (up to 90 lbs with assistance; 50 lbs solo)
  • Work on ladders and follow all safety protocols
Qualifications
  • Experience with Linux operating systems (e.g., RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu)
  • Must be a US citizen with ability to travel. A government clearance is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance at customer discretion
  • Familiarity with Linux system administration and scripting
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in fast-paced, dynamic environments
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments while balancing technical and business priorities
