Junior Pet Stylist – Grooming
Begin your Petco journey as a Junior Pet Stylist. Over a ten‑week training program you’ll learn the fundamental grooming tasks required to move forward in the pet‑care industry, including brushing, bathing, drying, nail trimming, and ear and gland cleaning.
Key Responsibilities
- Under close supervision, perform limited grooming services (bathing, drying, nail trimming, brushing, ear cleaning, gland cleaning) following pet‑parent instructions and company policies.
- Ensure the well‑being and safety of every animal in the salon at all times.
- Interact professionally with pet parents and address grooming‑related inquiries with timely resolution.
- Maintain a clean and safe grooming area, disinfect tools, and perform daily and weekly sanitation duties per Petco hygiene policies.
- Schedule grooming appointments, manage paperwork, and maintain accurate grooming records.
- Learn and adhere to Petco’s grooming policies, standards, and guidelines to ensure safety, quality, and consistency.
Training Program Overview
- Weeks 1–3: Learning and on‑the‑job training in bathing and drying techniques and pet safety.
- Weeks 4–10: Performing services while meeting weekly productivity goals.
Qualifications
- 0–1 year of animal‑related experience (shelter volunteering, pet‑sitting, prior grooming assistance preferred).
- High‑school diploma or GED preferred (not required).
- Passion for animals and a desire to pursue a career in pet grooming.
- Basic understanding of dog breeds, behavior, and common grooming practices.
- Capability to handle pets of all sizes and temperaments with empathy and care.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills for interactions with pet parents and grooming team members.
- Availability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as required by the grooming schedule.
Compensation and Benefits
- Hourly pay: $10.00 – $21.50.

Work Environment
Indoors in a grooming salon. Duties include bending, kneeling, lifting up to 30 lb., and standing for extended periods. Exposure to heights (ladder, vacuum tools) may occur. Environment may be noisy and wet; frequent direct contact with pet parents and dogs.
