Job summary

WSP is seeking a Junior Electrical Engineer to join our Federal Programs Team with potential work across Boise, ID; Overland Park, KS; Madison, WI; or Virginia Beach, VA offices. You will contribute to electrical design for a broad range of facility and infrastructure projects.

You will be involved from inception to completion, supporting design delivery in various frameworks and collaborating with engineers, planners, and construction professionals to meet client objectives and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from ABET-accredited college or university.
• 3–5 years of post-education electrical design experience on capital projects.
• Working knowledge of NEC, ANSI/IEEE, NFPA and ICC codes.
• Ability to pass security background checks as required by clients; US citizenship may be required.
• Experience applying electrical design standards and regulations in facilities projects.
• Familiarity with alternative delivery project environments and multiple delivery methods.
• Experience with power distribution modeling software (SKM PTW or ETAP) and lighting modeling (AGI32).
• Experience with CAD/BIM software (AutoCAD and REVIT); specification writing experience.

Responsibilities

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Junior Electrical Engineer with the potential to work out of the Boise, ID; Overland Park, KS; Madison, WI or Virginia Beach, VA offices and be involved in projects with our Federal Programs Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our clients' objectives and solves their challenges.

Your Impact

• Work within an electrical discipline team providing design on a wide range of projects.
• Involved from project inception to completion in the design and construction of facility and infrastructure projects, including new and renovation work.
• Successfully deliver design projects in design-bid-build, Design-Build, or Alternative Delivery frameworks.
• Assist with the development of single lines, three lines, and wiring diagrams; general arrangements; equipment layouts; grounding designs, lightning protection risk analysis and system design; lighting design, specification development; conformance with industry standards, and construction support activities as needed.
• Assist with performing calculations that include but are not limited to load analysis, short circuit analysis, protective device time-current coordination study, arc flash analysis, voltage drop calculations, motor starting analysis, point-by-point lighting calculations, underground structure design, cable pulling tension calculations, equipment sizing, grounding touch and step potentials, protective device coordination and protective relaying device settings.
• Assist with the development of contract documents including but not limited to electrical plans, and specifications.
• Work as part of a cross-functional team of engineers, planners, and construction professionals to execute project work on multiple concurrent projects.
• Assist with the preparation of technical reports and presentations that explain research, findings, and recommendations to improve, prevent, control, restore, or address design and/or construction issues or opportunities.
• Assist in the analysis, evaluation, and interpretation of data obtained during field investigations, offering input with developing action plans for moderate- to high-level risk mitigation activities.
• Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
• Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from ABET accredited college or university or equivalent.
• 3-5 years of relevant post education experience as an electrical engineer providing design deliverables for small, medium, and large capital projects.
• Working knowledge of relevant engineering and electrical construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
• Ability to successfully pass security background check to access facilities depending on client requirements. The level of background check required by the clients requires US citizenship.
• Basic knowledge and experience with understanding and direct application of the NEC, ANSI/IEEE standards, NFPA standards, and ICC codes.
• Experience within the engineering consulting environment.
• Ability to perform technical computations and calculations involving the application of electrical engineering principles, understanding plans and specifications, and making factual comparisons to the appropriate regulations.
• Ability to assist with construction observations and site engineering investigations on various aspects of facility electrical systems, adhering to applicable WSP and site safety regulations and policies.
• Experience assisting with the preparation of complex technical deliverables.
• Effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
• Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
• Must be flexible to a variety of schedules to meet business needs and able to prioritize responsibilities and quickly adapt to change in a pressure work environment.
• Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical work week.
• Ability to travel within the US and internationally depending on project-specific requirements, with the potential for overnight stays.
• Experience utilizing power distribution modeling software including SKM PTW or ETAP.
• Experience utilizing lighting modeling software including AGI32.
• Experience with implementing CAD and BIM software such as AutoCAD and REVIT.
• Specification authoring and editing experience.
• Professional Engineering license.
• 3+ years of experience in Alternative Delivery projects.
• DBIA Certification.

Compensation

Expected Salary (all locations): $78,600 – $122,700

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
