Job summary

Schuff Steel is seeking a Junior Drawing Reviewer to assess shop and erection drawings for clarity, completeness, and constructability. You will verify dimensions, part marks, and weld symbols, ensuring compliance with standards before fabrication and field use.

Working under the Drawing Quality Manager, you will communicate issues clearly, follow procedures, and support continuous improvement in detailing practices within a climate-controlled office environment.

Qualifications

• At least two years related experience coordinating structural steel projects.
• Associates degree or higher, or approved technical training may substitute for experience.
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Ability to read/interpret shop, construction, and design drawings.
• Knowledge of drafting standards and basic terminology.

Responsibilities

• Review shop and erection drawings for clarity, completeness, and quality.
• Verify drawings contain all required dimensions and information for fabrication.
• Ensure running dimensions are properly applied and clearly shown.
• Check part marks labeling and consistent referencing across drawings.
• Review weld symbols for correctness and proper display.
• Ensure drawing naming, classification, labeling and annotation meet standards.
• Identify discrepancies and communicate findings to the detailing team.
• Provide constructive feedback to improve drawing quality.
• Follow established review procedures and checklists.
• Assist continuous improvement by addressing recurring quality issues.
• Document issues and collaborate with upstream/downstream stakeholders.

Position Value Proposition:The Junior Drawing Reviewer is responsible for reviewing shop drawings and erection drawings for presentation/constructability quality to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established drawing standards prior to release for fabrication or field use. Working under the direction of the Drawing Quality Manager, the Junior Drawing Reviewer verifies that drawings clearly communicate all required information needed for fabrication and erection while maintaining consistency with company standards and detailing best practices.Core Responsibilities:Drawing Quality ReviewReview shop drawings and erection drawings to ensure clarity, completeness, and adherence to internal quality standards.Verify that drawings contain all required dimensions and information necessary for fabrication and erection.Dimension and Layout VerificationConfirm that running dimensions are properly applied and clearly shown.Ensure all required dimensions are present, accurate, and logically placed to support fabrication and assembly.Part IdentificationVerify that all part marks are clearly shown, properly labeled, and consistently referenced throughout the drawings.Welding Information ReviewConfirm that weld symbols are correctly specified, accurate, and clearly displayed in accordance with drawing standards.Drawing Standards ComplianceEnsure proper naming and classification of main member worktypes.Verify that drawing formatting, labeling, and annotation follow company detailing standards.Issue Identification and FeedbackIdentify drawing discrepancies, omissions, or quality concerns and communicate findings to the detailing team for correction.Provide clear and constructive feedback to help improve drawing quality.Process AdherenceFollow established drawing review procedures and checklists.Support continuous improvement efforts by identifying recurring quality issues and suggesting improvements to drawing standards.Communication and DocumentationClearly communicate/document relevant issues and collaborate with all upstream and downstream stakeholdersADDITIONAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:(This job description is not an exclusive or exhaustive list of all job responsibilities and functions that an employee in this position may be asked to perform.
