Job summary

WSP in Birmingham, Alabama is seeking an Early Career Distribution Mechanical Engineer to join our team in the Birmingham office. You will support the design, development, testing, and inspection of mechanical systems on infrastructure and construction projects, contributing to project documentation and compliance with industry standards.

Under supervision, you will gain hands-on experience with AutoCAD/CAM and related design software, collaborate with the Power Delivery Distribution Birmingham

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• 0–1 year of post-education experience.
• Strong research and analytical skills.
• Familiarity with design/build processes and codes.
• Effective communication with engineers and non-engineers.
• Attention to detail and ability to multitask.
• Proficiency with technical writing and standard office software.
• Awareness of safety standards and regulations.
• Willingness to travel occasionally.

Responsibilities

• Assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing site data, surveys, drawings, and reports.
• Support basic professional mechanical engineering work on site conditions and conformance.
• Contribute to load calculations and operating strategies for equipment.
• Help verify site characteristics and address engineering/ design issues.
• Generate documentation and specifications using digital tools and field notes.
• Follow safety guidelines and site procedures.
• Complete training on assigned tasks.
• Adhere to company Code of Conduct and policies.
• Take on additional responsibilities as required by projects.
