Who we are

Aaron Lim Design is a small and nimble architecture practice based in San Francisco working on single-family residential projects of all scales and budgets from kitchen remodels to full-gut renovations and additions. We are committed to nurturing a positive team environment that is collaborative and supports both personal and professional development.

About You

We are looking to partner with a Junior Designer who is self-directed, highly organized, able to work on multiple projects at once, manages their time efficiently, and has great communication skills. You have a strong conceptual background, and are also grounded in traditional residential construction methods.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Pre-Design: measure and prepare as-built drawings; perform preliminary planning and building code analysis; meet with clients for an initial kickoff meeting
  • Design: prepare concept sketches by hand or in AutoCAD or Sketchup alongside or under the direction of a Project Architect; prepare design presentations in InDesign; understand and become familiar with how design impacts budget; apply knowledge of planning and building codes to design and detailing
  • Documentation: develop permit submittal sets and pricing sets; manage drawing files under the direction of a Project Architect; complete redline revisions
  • Permit Expediting: respond to plan check comments; submit building permit sets for entitlements
  • Construction Administration: under the direction of a Project Architect, attend construction site visits and prepare meeting notes; prepare RFI responses and manage drawing sets throughout construction
Qualifications
  • This is a FULL-TIME REMOTE position, and you must be based within a 10mi radius of San Francisco. Must have an active driver’s license and be willing and able to drive to in-person meetings as needed.
  • 1-3 years of progressive experience in single-family residential projects in the San Francisco Bay Area
  • Working knowledge of the California Building Code and local codes
  • Direct experience and proficient working in all phases of design
  • Familiarity with local building practices (type V construction) and basic detailing.
  • Working knowledge of local entitlement processes and the California Building Code.
  • Software Requirements: AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, Adobe CS is required; Rhino and Enscape experience is preferred.
  • B.Arch or M.Arch degree from an accredited architecture program or foreign equivalent.
  • Legal authorization to work in the US and English fluency.
