  • Ability to translate technical information into clear policy language.
  • Strong writing, proofreading, research, and organizational skills.

The Company is hiring a Junior Cybersecurity Policy Specialist to support the Department of Commerce (DOC) Enterprise Cybersecurity Policy Program (ECAT).

Location: Hybrid, Washington, DC

Compensation Range: The pay range for this position is $80,000-$90,000 annually. Kentro determines compensation by evaluating current government contracting and commercial market conditions, as well as the role’s specific requirements. Final salary placement within this range will be based on the candidate’s relevant skills, experience, education, certifications, location, and security clearance level, where applicable.

This Job Description reflects the primary duties of the role; however, it is not intended to be all‑inclusive. Team members may be asked to take on additional responsibilities in alignment with customer expectations, business needs, and Kentro’s culture of collaboration and adaptability.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with drafting, editing, and finalizing cybersecurity policies, standards, and handbooks, including documents already in progress, for Federal review and approval.
  • Support annual reviews and updates of published policy documents. Track review dates, identify outdated language or inconsistencies, and prepare recommended revisions.
  • Research applicable cybersecurity guidance and requirements, summarize findings, and assist with incorporating approved changes into policy documents.
  • Support the Federal Policy Lead in maturing the Cybersecurity Policy Framework by identifying gaps, overlaps, and unclear requirements and recommending improvements.
  • Coordinate document reviews with subject matter experts, Cyber Liaisons, and Bureau stakeholders. Consolidate comments, track their resolution, and maintain revision histories.
  • Prepare approved documents for publication and maintain organized policy repositories, document inventories, version controls, and publication records.
  • Support dissemination and adoption of policies throughout DOC through announcements, briefings, frequently asked questions, quick reference guides, and other supplemental materials.
  • Develop clear, engaging policy communications using varied formats, such as presentations, infographics, SharePoint content, and short learning materials, tailored to cybersecurity professionals.
  • Assist with policy inquiries by researching questions, preparing draft responses, and routing issues requiring interpretation or decisions to the Federal Policy Lead.
  • Maintain action trackers and provide status updates on document development, review cycles, publication milestones, and communication activities.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in cybersecurity, information technology, computer science, public policy, technical communication, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of four years of relevant experience supporting cybersecurity policy, IT policy, governance, compliance, or technical writing for IT or cybersecurity programs.
  • Demonstrated experience drafting, editing, reviewing, or maintaining policies, standards, procedures, or comparable technical documents.
  • Working knowledge of cybersecurity concepts and the ability to translate technical information into clear, practical policy language.
  • Strong writing, proofreading, research, and organizational skills, with attention to accuracy, consistency, and document quality.
  • Ability to coordinate stakeholder feedback, manage multiple deadlines, and complete assigned work with guidance from senior staff.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, including tracked changes, document formatting, and review coordination.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting a federal cybersecurity, governance, risk, or compliance program.
  • Familiarity with NIST cybersecurity frameworks and security controls, federal cybersecurity guidance, and policy lifecycle management.
  • Experience using SharePoint for document management, publication, or stakeholder communications.
  • Experience creating policy awareness materials, briefings, visual summaries, or other content that supports policy understanding and adoption.

  • Willing and able to obtain and maintain Public Trust Clearance
