Job Summary

We are seeking to hire a Junior Chemist to work in our research and development (R&D) pilot plant facility. This role will plan and execute R&D activities for organic hydrocarbon processes. In this role, will apply academic and practical knowledge of chemical compounds to create and improve products by concentrating on creating, modifying, and testing materials and processes during the various phases of R&D. To be successful in this position, must have the aptitude to effectively manage day-to-day pilot plant, laboratory duties, and task lists with a high level of ownership. Junior Chemist will work under immediate supervision and interact with all levels of management, scientists, engineers, research associates, and technicians. Junior Chemist will be required to maintain laboratory notebooks, analyze data, develop charts, attend meetings, participate in project activities planning sessions, and write technical summary reports. This job will have non-standard work hours in accordance with the rigors of reactor runs.



Responsibilities


  • Will perform routine and specialized chemical synthesis, separations, and analyses using various types of instruments and instruction.

  • Analyze organic or inorganic compounds to determine chemical or physical properties, composition, structure, relationships, or reactions, using chromatography, spectroscopy, or spectrophotometry techniques.

  • Will prepare test solutions, compounds, or reagents for the R&D pilot plant personnel to conduct tests.

  • Develop, improve, or customize products, equipment, formulas, processes, or analytical methods.

  • Will compile and analyze test information to determine process or equipment operating efficiency or to diagnose malfunctions.

  • Direct, coordinate, or advise personnel in test procedures for analyzing components or physical properties of materials.

  • Induce changes in composition of substances by introducing heat, light, energy, or chemical catalysts for quantitative or qualitative analysis.

  • Maintain laboratory instruments to ensure proper working order and troubleshoot malfunctions when needed.

  • Will confer with scientists or engineers to conduct analyses of research projects, interpret test results, or develop nonstandard tests.

  • Write technical reports or prepare standards and specifications for processes, facilities, products, or tests.

  • Follow OSHA and other safety guidelines to maintain a safe and hazard-free work environment.

  • Other job duties as assigned.



Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering is required.

  • Minimum of one year of experience and knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures obtained through an undergraduate education with emphasis in chemistry or one year of direct work experience applying the chemistry concepts, practices, and procedures is required.

  • Preference will be given to those with laboratory experience.

  • Prior experience using a Schlenk line apparatus is preferred.

  • Experience with chemicals and chemical processes is desired.

  • Prior experience handling flammable chemicals is preferred.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in common computer tools and web-based applications is required.

  • Prior experience working in teams with accountability, attention to detail, collaboration, and results orientation.



Physical Demands

Frequent lifting and moving of items up to 50 pounds; bending, reaching above shoulder level, climbing stairs, pulling, prolonged standing or sitting may be required. Must follow safety policies and use appropriate PPE as provided by the company.
