About Science and Technology Corporation (STC)

STC is a science, sensors, and systems company founded in 1979. We continually expand our Earth and Space Sciences support capabilities to NASA, NOAA, DoD, and other Federal and State agencies. Our staff support many of the operational missions that monitor the heartbeat of our planet through a growing number of Earth Observing System of Systems platforms and direct field research. We also research and investigate leading-edge observing technologies and assist in their integration into operations.

Role Overview

STC is hiring a Junior Data Integration Developer to support the National Weather Service (NWS) on the AWIPS Application Environment contract. AWIPS (Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System) is the mission‑critical platform used by forecasters at National Weather Service sites nationwide to analyze environmental data and issue the forecasts, watches, and warnings that help protect lives and property.

This role focuses on building and maintaining REST APIs, integrating external data services, developing mock APIs, defining OpenAPI specifications, and creating scalable backend services using AWS. Responsibilities also include data transformation and validation for large datasets, processing geospatial data, implementing caching strategies, supporting event‑driven and streaming pipelines, assisting with integration testing, collaborating with backend teams using GenAI tools, and documenting data flows and integration patterns.

The successful candidate will work within a collaborative Agile development environment supporting cloud-native applications, operational weather systems, and modern software engineering practices.

Responsibilities
  • Develop cloud-native web applications using AWS services and modern web frameworks.
  • Build responsive, interactive user interfaces for weather data analysis and forecasting.
  • Create and consume RESTful APIs and backend services for meteorological data.
  • Develop serverless functions using AWS Lambda to support web application functionality.
  • Implement data processing and transformation logic for meteorological datasets.
  • Build components for visualizing weather data including maps, charts, and interactive displays.
  • Integrate with AWS services such as S3, DynamoDB, API Gateway, and CloudFront.
  • Write clean, maintainable code following team standards and best practices.
  • Develop and execute unit tests and integration tests for application components.
  • Implement security best practices in cloud application development.
  • Collaborate with UX designers to create intuitive interfaces for complex meteorological workflows.
  • Work with data integration specialists to consume meteorological data effectively.
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to continuous improvement of development practices.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues across the application stack.
  • Contribute to technical documentation and knowledge sharing.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or related field.
  • 1–2 years of experience in web application and backend microservices development.
  • Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and orchestration using EKS.
  • Knowledge of HTML5, CSS3, and responsive web design principles.
  • Experience with AWS cloud services and development patterns.
  • Understanding of RESTful API design and consumption.
  • Familiarity with serverless architecture concepts.
  • Experience with version control systems such as Git and CI/CD pipelines.
Benefits
  • Paid Time Off starting at 80 hrs/yr
  • 11 Federal holidays
  • 56 hrs/yr Sick Leave
  • 401(k) with up to 4% employer matching contribution
