Job summary

SURGE Staffing seeks an experienced Journeyman Tool & Die Maker with a strong background in progressive stamping dies, die building, troubleshooting, repair, and precision machining. The ideal candidate will diagnose tooling issues, improve die performance, and uphold high standards for part quality and production efficiency.

Qualifications

• Journeyman Tool and Die Maker experience or equivalent hands-on toolroom experience.
• Experience with progressive stamping dies, including building, assembly, troubleshooting, and repair.
• Ability to read blueprints, engineering drawings, and GD&T specifications.
• Proficiency operating manual machine tools (mills, lathes, surface grinders, drill presses).
• Experience using precision measuring equipment to verify dimensions and tolerances.
• Knowledge of tool steels and heat treatment.
• Strong mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting skills, and attention to detail.
• Commitment to workplace safety, quality standards, and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Build, assemble, maintain, repair, and troubleshoot progressive stamping dies.
• Diagnose die and tooling problems; identify root causes of defects; implement corrective actions.
• Perform die tryouts, adjustments, precision fitting, and repairs for optimal performance.
• Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, GD&T specifications, and dimensional requirements.
• Operate mills, lathes, surface grinders, and drill presses.
• Use precision measuring instruments to verify dimensions, tolerances, and clearances.
• Perform precision grinding, fitting, rework, and tooling modifications as needed.
• Collaborate with production and engineering to reduce downtime and improve die performance.
• Identify opportunities for process improvements and tooling reliability.
• Apply knowledge of tool steels, heat treatment, grinding, and material properties.
• Utilize CNC machining and wire EDM processes as needed to support toolroom operations.
• Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area.
