Job summary

HX5 Sierra, LLC. seeks an experienced journeyman level Tool & Die Maker for the NASA Glenn Research Center TFOME contract in Cleveland, OH. You will perform precision machining and assembly using CNC and manual equipment, delivering high-tolerance parts.

The role requires expertise in micromachining, die sinking, wire EDM, MasterCam, and inspection with CMM/laser trackers. Travel and standing for long periods may be required; visa is citizens only.

Qualifications

• Completion of a Vocational Trades Program or 2 year Associates Degree in Manufacturing or Precision Machining; apprenticeship or equivalent OJT; 4 years minimum experience.
• Strong math background with geometry and trigonometry.
• Able to maintain +/- .001 inch tolerances.
• Knowledge of safe machine shop practices.

Overview

The Test Facilities Operation, Maintenance and Engineering (TFOME) contract at the NASA Glenn Research Center provides engineering and technical services in the aeronautics, space power and propulsion test facilities. We are currently looking for an experienced journeyman level Tool & Die Maker. The Journeyman Level Tool & Die Maker will provide precision machining and assembly using a wide variety of CNC and manual machining equipment.

Responsibilities

1. Must be proficient in making close tolerance high quality parts.
2. Required specialized skills: Micromachining, die sinking, wire electrical discharge machining, advanced experience with MasterCam software, use of various inspection equipment including handheld precision, and CMM and laser tracker/scanner. G-code experience a plus.
3. Solid knowledge of most conventional machining equipment such as CNC mills, lathes and CNC machining centers.
4. Expert knowledge of material machining characteristics, including exotics a plus.
5. Provide precision machining and assembly using a wide variety of CNC and manual machining equipment.
6. Independently determine full scope of work and logically plan the steps required to complete work efficiently and accurately.
7. Work in a professional, team oriented environment in providing input to engineers and peers on design and machinability options and ideas.
8. Design and modify fixtures and tooling for effectiveness and accuracy of machining assignments.
9. Provide technical guidance to customers and peers to assist them in improving precision, accuracy and reliability of process equipment.
10. Provide direct and indirect support to Prototyping and Assembly for machining, fixture building and assembly activities as requested.

Qualifications

1. Successful completion of a Vocational Trades Program or 2 year Associates Degree in Manufacturing or Precision Machining; completion of a Tool & Die Maker Apprenticeship program, or equivalent OJT; and 4 years minimum work experience
2. Strong math background with a good understanding of geometry and trigonometry.
3. Consistently able to work to +/- .001 inch tolerances.
4. A thorough understanding of safe machine shop work practices required.
5. Visualizes and develops parts or equipment that need to be made from sketches, prints, models or other visual aids.
6. May stand for extended periods of time and travel to areas where work is required.
7. Must be capable of following written and oral instructions.
8. Machines include drill presses, lathes, horizontal boring mill, vertical mill, surface grinder, and cut off saw. Use precision measuring equipment. Safe use of lifting devices, such as cranes and rigging equipment.
