Job summary

TP Mechanical Contractors in Columbus, Ohio, seeks an experienced journeyman plumber/heating technician to coordinate, install, and repair plumbing and heating systems on commercial projects. Read blueprints, communicate with subcontractors, and represent TP Mechanical professionally.

The role emphasizes safety, on-site problem solving, and leadership of field crews. A minimum of 5 years in commercial plumbing/heating is preferred, with a valid Journeyman license and commitment to safety

Qualifications

• 5 years commercial experience in field plumbing or heating operations.
• Prior shop experience a plus.
• Stable work history.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate, install, and/or repair plumbing and heating systems including fixtures and equipment.
• Perform field fabrication of plumbing and piping systems and set up project schedules.
• Read blueprints and interpret specifications to meet contract requirements.
• Plan work to maximize efficiency of manpower and resources.
• Inspect work in progress and completed work for conformance to specs.

Responsibilities And Duties

• Coordinate, install, and/or repair sanitary, storm, domestic water, fuel oil and natural gas systems including fixtures and equipment for plumbing systems and heating and cooling equipment systems.
• Perform field fabrication of plumbing and piping systems and set up the specific task or project schedule.
• Make adjustments to work sequences to meet construction schedules, using own knowledge of equipment and lower-level personnel capacities.
• Manage materials to ensure timely completion of the work scheduled. Ensure optimal material consumption.
• Read blueprints and interpret specifications.
• Correct punch-list items and make distribution as required.
• Plan work to make the most efficient use of assigned manpower and other resources.
• Inspect work-in-progress and completed work to ensure conformance to contract and specification.
• Ensure the needs of general contractors, owners, and other customers as well as entrusted employees are met.
• Keep the superintendent or project manager aware of all issues affecting production and schedule.
• Assist project manager and superintendents with problems or questions in an accurate and timely manner.
• Attend, as required, all jobsite and office meetings related to assigned projects.
• Serve as a coach and mentor to lower echelon to help them develop and improve their skills and increase their technical knowledge.
• Strengthen skills to encourage improvement in other plumbers or fitters.
• All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications And Experience

• Experience/Qualifications Required:
• 5 years commercial experience in field plumbing or heating operations.
• Prior shop experience a plus.
• Stable work history.

Job Skills

• Ability to read blueprints.
• Knowledge of plumbing and piping installation.
• Ability to fabricate offsets.
• Working knowledge of all hand and power tools.
• Able to do take-offs.
• Able to install equipment.
• Works within precise limits or standards of accuracy and productivity.
• Good math skills.

Education

• High School or GED Equivalent.
• Journeyman license.
• Trade School a plus.
• Willing to obtain additional trade licenses and/or certificates.

Physical Requirements

• Eyesight correctable to 20/50.
• Able to work long hours on feet.
• Able to lift and climb ladders and scaffolds.
• Able to perform shift work.
• Must be able to lift objects weighing up to 60lbs.
• Must be able to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Must not be afraid of heights.

Special Requirements

• Valid Driver’s License.
• Must provide own basic hand tools.
• Able to operate heavy machinery.
• OSHA 10 certificate.
