Build on a Legacy. Help Shape What's Next.
Since 1951, Miles Plumbing & Heating has served homes and businesses across the Lansing area with trusted plumbing and boiler-heating expertise. As a locally owned company with more than 100 years of combined team experience, we are building the next chapter of a premium home-services brand, without losing the craftsmanship, accountability, and customer care that built our reputation.
We are hiring a Michigan-licensed Journeyman Plumber to independently diagnose, repair, maintain, and install plumbing systems while delivering an exceptional customer experience. This role is especially well suited to a strong residential service plumber who can also support commercial work, present repair and replacement options clearly, document jobs accurately in ServiceTitan, and take ownership from arrival through payment collection and closeout. You may also coach apprentices and less-experienced technicians in the field.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose plumbing problems accurately and perform safe, code-compliant service, repair, maintenance, and installation work.
- Service fixtures, piping, drains, water heaters, pumps, valves, hydronic components, and related plumbing systems.
- Explain findings and options clearly, prepare accurate estimates, and obtain approval before beginning additional work.
- Own assigned jobs from dispatch through completion, including troubleshooting, quality checks, cleanup, and follow-up communication.
- Use ServiceTitan to manage time, job status, notes, photos, invoices, estimates, recommendations, and return-visit needs.
- Review completed work and charges with customers and collect on-site payment when required.
- Coordinate proactively with dispatch and field leadership regarding scope changes, materials, delays, safety concerns, and follow-up work.
- Maintain an organized company vehicle and care for company tools, materials, and equipment.
- Provide technical guidance, safe-work coaching, and constructive feedback to apprentices when assigned.
Qualifications
- Current Michigan Journeyman Plumber license; license status will be verified through LARA.
- Proven plumbing service, repair, maintenance, and installation experience, with strong residential service capability.
- Strong diagnostic knowledge of plumbing systems, fixtures, piping, drainage, water heaters, and related components.
- Ability to work independently, follow applicable codes and manufacturer requirements, and exercise sound judgment in the field.
- Professional customer-service and communication skills, including the ability to explain recommendations and estimates.
- Comfort using mobile technology; ServiceTitan or similar field-service software experience is preferred.
- Valid driver's license and driving record that meets company insurance requirements.
- Dependable, punctual, safety-minded, accountable, and willing to learn and adapt.
- Ability to safely lift and carry up to 100 pounds.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in both residential and commercial plumbing service.
- Experience diagnosing and presenting repair-versus-replacement options.
- Backflow certification, boiler-related credentials, or other specialty certifications.
- Experience training or mentoring plumbing apprentices.
Pay and Benefits
- Full-time, W-2 employment
- Competitive pay of $36 - $45 per hour, negotiable based on experience, licensing, and certifications
- Additional certifications may qualify employees for higher compensation
- Overtime opportunities
- Health, dental, vision, and life insurance
- Paid vacation and holidays
- Cell phone stipend
- Company-provided field resources and tool allowance
- Uniforms provided upon completion of the company's rebranding process
- Ongoing technical training and continuing-education support
- Long-term career opportunities with an established and growing local company
