Job summary

PacifiCorp seeks a Journeyman Lineman Serviceman to construct, maintain, and repair overhead and underground power lines across our service area. The role requires operating heavy equipment, performing switching in substations, and supporting outages as needed.

You will train apprentices, perform safety procedures, and participate in inspections of transmission and distribution equipment to assure continuous, safe electrical service to customers. Based at the Draper/Salt Lake City region.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Journeyman Lineman training completed.
• Must pass Rocky Mountain Power testing and board review.
• Hot stick training and experience required.
• Class A Commercial Driver's License required.

Responsibilities

• Construct, maintain and repair power lines and distribution systems overhead and underground to ensure continuous electric service.
• Operate heavy equipment (line truck, backhoe, forklift, trencher, cranes, wire pulling) for new and existing lines.
• Troubleshoot and restore service during outages and storms.
• Train and instruct apprentices in line work and safety, and perform switching in substations as needed.
• Inspect substations and lines, and maintain street light systems.

Responsibilities

• Construct,maintain and repair Company power lines and distribution systems,both overhead and underground,from point of generation to the customer's premises to insure continuity of electric service in a safe and efficient manner.
• Receives work direction and review from Crew Supervisor,Foreman,Dispatcher,District Manager,or other line supervisors.
• Construct,install,maintain and repair all transmission and distribution electrical systems and associated equipment,both overhead and underground,for the reliable and safe transmission and distribution of electrical service to the customer.
• Operate heavy equipment such as line truck,backhoe,forklift,trencher,overhead cranes,and wire pulling equipment in the building of new lines or distribution systems and/or maintaining existing electric systems or services.
• Work with blasting and explosive materials and devices.
• Climb poles to construct,repair,or maintain electric line equipment or string,splice,and sag wire on live or dead circuits.
• Troubleshoot,repair,and restore electric service due to line faults,isolated customer outages,and other emergency outages caused by storms,floods,and accidents.
• Train and instruct apprentices in all phases of line work,proper use of tools and operating and maintaining equipment in accordance to safety rules,electrical code,and regulations.
• Perform switching and other mechanical duties in substations as required.
• Install and maintain street light systems.
• Patrol and inspect substations,transmission and distribution lines and equipment,and make a report of findings.
• Test electrical load with special test equipment on primary and secondary circuits and make corrections as necessary to maintain proper voltages.
• Make a complete record of mileage reports,trouble orders and work performed; time sheets,material reports,line patrol reports and others as required.
• May be required to relieve the working Foreman or Crew Supervisor in their absence.

The typical duties described herein represent a major portion of the job. Other similar duties may be assigned. When management determines that it is efficient to do so,employees in this classification may be assigned duties of less complexity.

Requirements

• A high school diploma,GED or proof of equivalent
• Journeyman Lineman experience which includes completion of a formal training program for a Journeyman Lineman.
• Must meet examining board review of skills and experience and will be required to pass testing through Rocky Mountain Power.
• Candidate must have hot stick training and experience.
• Must have a Class A Commercial Driver's License.

Physical Demands

• Require lifting in excess of 75 lbs from floor to waist and waist to overhead.
• Carrying in excess of 75 lbs with both hands.
• Pushing and pulling in excess of 100 lbs of exertional force.
• Sustained,awkward positions/postures including bending and twisting at the waist and neck; reaching forward,to the side,across the body and overhead.
• Forceful grip and pinch; manipulation of small objects.
• Balancing on one or both legs during dynamic activities.
• Manipulation of large objects during activities requiring balance and sustained awkward postures.
• This position requires a post-offer.
