Job summary

Utility Lines Construction Services in Cullman, AL seeks an Experienced Fiber Journeyman Lineperson to assist with installation, operation, maintenance and repair of overhead power lines and systems.

The role requires hands-on work at height, in confined spaces, and on emergency calls.You will train on the job and in classroom settings, work nights, weekends, and holidays as part of a recovery team, and must hold a Journeyman Lineperson Certification and a valid CDL.

Qualifications

  • Journeyman Lineperson Certification required.
  • Valid CDL required.
  • Pre-employment drug screen, background, and/or MVR check may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in construction, operation, maintenance and repair of distribution, substation facilities and systems including reconductoring existing lines.
  • Attend to service calls concerning power outages and electrical problems.
  • Receives training both in book/classroom skills and on the job skills; continue to pass ongoing training to higher skill levels.
  • Work at varying heights above ground, in manholes, and confined spaces.
  • Operates motorized equipment, uses hand tools, and performs routine maintenance on electrical equipment.
  • Follows safety guidelines as part of training.
  • Stocks and services vehicles to respond to emergency situations.
  • Works nights, weekends, and holidays; may be part of recovery force during emergencies and disasters.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities


  • Assists in the construction, operation, maintenance and repair of distribution, substation facilities and systems including reconductoring existing lines.

  • Attend to service calls concerning power outages and electrical problems.

  • Follows safety guidelines as part of training.

  • Stocks and services vehicles to be equipped to respond to emergency situations.

  • Works nights, weekends, and holidays for extended periods; required to perform duties as part of recovery force during emergencies and disasters.


Minimum Qualifications


  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

  • Possess problem-solving mental cognition.

  • Able to:

    • work with hands above head for extended periods of time.

    • walk, climb, and work from ladders, or at various heights, on uneven and slippery surfaces, performing mentally/physically demanding work under unfavorable weather conditions while handling equipment or material.

    • meet and maintain weight restrictions for bucket truck and all other existing equipment as identified by manufacturer.

    • work efficiently and effectively from heights.

    • identify the hazards on the job.

    • climb a power pole using climbing hooks and belt.

    • drive all vehicles assigned to the line crew, operate digger derrick to set poles, and use jackhammer, etc.

    • work long hours and overtime during holidays, emergencies, weekends, etc. Subject to call out work.




Education & Experience


  • Journeyman Lineperson Certification required.


Pre-Screen


  • Upon offer, employees may be required to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, background, and/or MVR check.


License & Certifications


  • Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) required.


Travel Requirements


  • Responds to emergencies during holidays, weekends and national disasters.

  • May require travel away from show up area.
