Job summary

New Smyrna Beach Utilities (NSBU) seeks an experienced lineman to oversee skilled maintenance and repair of the electric distribution and transmission systems. Work often involves high-tension cables and challenging weather, requiring safety and precision to protect lives.

The role includes emergency response duties and potential assignment to special trouble jobs. The position reports to the Transmission & Distribution Manager and requires a Florida CDL Class A with airbrake endorsement.

Qualifications

• Completion of a recognized Journeyman Lineman Apprentice Program is required.
• Experience: 5+ years in the electric utility industry.

Responsibilities

• Repair or replace defective power lines and auxiliary equipment; splice and reconnect wires.
• Repair equipment such as cross arms, braces and street lights; replace fuses, arresters and insulators.
• Replace defective poles by erecting new poles and transferring cables.
• Test voltage load on transformers and adjust transformers as needed.
• Work on energized lines with electrocution hazard; use safety devices.
• Locate trouble in primary and secondary lines; replace fuses and clear shorts.
