Job summary

DynaTen Corporation, a Comfort Systems USA Company, seeks a Journeyman - Combo Welder to fit and weld commercial mechanical piping using GTAW and SMAW on carbon steel and stainless steel. You will follow approved welding procedures while supporting safe, productive field or shop operations, reporting to the Foreman - Piping.

Review drawings and isometrics, prepare joints, verify fit-up, and weld per procedures.

Qualifications

• At least 3 years of commercial pipe welding or related industrial welding experience.
• Ability to pass welding qualification tests before production welding.
• Ability to read piping isometrics, welding symbols, specs and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Review isometric drawings, weld maps, specifications and work packages before fabrication or installation.
• Prepare joints, verify fit-up, select consumables, and weld per procedure specifications.
• Inspect welds visually, identify defects, and complete repairs per procedures.
• Coordinate fit-up, rigging, supports, purge requirements and sequencing with pipefitters.
• Maintain welding leads, machines, torches, grounds, ventilation and hot-work controls safely.
• Document weld identification and support nondestructive examination, pressure testing and turnover records.
• Mentor apprentices and less-experienced team members in safe work practices.

Position Summary

The Journeyman - Combo Welder fits and welds commercial mechanical piping and assemblies using GTAW and SMAW processes on carbon steel and stainless-steel piping. The role follows approved welding procedures, project specifications, and quality requirements while supporting safe, productive field or shop operations. This position reports to the Foreman - Piping.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

• Review isometric drawings, weld maps, specifications, and work packages before fabrication or installation.

• Prepare joints, verify fit-up, select consumables, and weld in accordance with approved welding procedure specifications.

• Inspect welds visually, identify defects, and complete repairs in accordance with quality procedures.

• Coordinate fit-up, rigging, supports, access, purge requirements, and sequencing with pipefitters and field leaders.

• Maintain leads, machines, torches, grounds, ventilation, fire prevention, and hot-work controls in safe condition.

• Document weld identification and support nondestructive examination, pressure testing, and turnover records.

• Mentor apprentices and less-experienced team members in safe work practices and basic welding preparation.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• At least 3 years of commercial pipe welding or closely related industrial welding experience.

• Ability to pass project- or company-required weld qualification tests before performing production welding.

• Ability to read piping isometrics, welding symbols, specifications, and procedure requirements.

• Knowledge of hot-work permits, fire-watch requirements, compressed gases, ventilation, and welding PPE.

• Ability to work at heights, in mechanical rooms, and in other physically demanding construction environments.

Preferred Qualifications

• Current ASME Section IX or other relevant welder performance qualifications.

• Experience with orbital welding, brazing, stainless steel, medical gas, or high-purity systems, as applicable.

• OSHA 30-hour Construction credential and current lift certifications.

Working Conditions

Work is performed on active commercial construction sites and may include outdoor exposure, temperature extremes, noise, dust, limited-access areas, ladders, lifts, scaffolds, and elevated surfaces. The employee must be able to stand, walk, bend, kneel, reach, climb, handle tools and materials, and frequently lift or carry up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation. Required PPE and all project safety procedures must be followed.
