Western Michigan University is seeking a skilled Carpenter to install, repair, and maintain walls, doors, and fixtures on the WMU-Kalamazoo campus. The role involves fabricating parts, hanging ceilings, and assembling cabinetry as part of daily maintenance tasks.

The position is full-time, nonexempt, with a 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. shift, Monday through Friday, at WMU’s Main Campus. Candidates should have apprenticeship or journeyman experience and a high school diploma.

Qualifications

• Read and comprehend written instructions and safety regulations.
• Interpret blueprints, diagrams and operating instructions.
• Completion of an apprenticeship or five years journeyman experience in the trade.
• High school diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Erect metal stud partitions, hang ceilings and walls, frame windows and doorways.
• Prefit and hang doors; erect modular partitions and cabinets.
• Maintain structures and replace damaged features and fixtures.
• Work at heights with scaffolding or ladders as required.
• Assist in updating drawings and training apprentices as assigned.
• Organize work to minimize materials and hours while ensuring safety.
