Job summary

UC Berkeley's Graduate School of Journalism seeks temporary, part-time instructors to teach both during the academic year and Summer Minor program. Appointments often involve one day per week of teaching with additional duties such as office hours, grading, and course material development.

We welcome practitioners with strong backgrounds in news writing, video storytelling, data journalism, and topical expertise to bring real-world experience to the classroom.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent international degree, or 10 years of journalism experience.
• Advanced degree plus five years of journalism experience, or 10 years in journalism.
• Teaching and mentorship experience preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Hold office hours, assign grades, and prepare course materials.
• Deliver lectures in-person and mentor students in journalism practice.
• Develop inclusive teaching materials and diverse perspectives.
• Advise students and contribute to course website maintenance.
