Job summary

Amentum is seeking a Mid-Level Piping Engineer in Oak Ridge. The role includes designing pressure piping systems, performing calculations, and ensuring compliance with ANSI B31.3/B31.9. You will collaborate with a multidiscipline team and issue critical piping specifications and drawings.

The position requires a BS in Mechanical Engineering, up to 10% travel, and proficiency with Excel/Word. Occasional field work and travel to sites may be required, with a hybrid or remote work arrangement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering required.
• 5 years engineering experience preferred.
• U.S. citizenship required.
• Less than 10% travel.
• Strong Excel/Word/Microsoft Office skills.

Responsibilities

• Plan work with multidiscipline team and provide pressure piping system designs.
• Generate piping specifications per ANSI B31.3 and B31.9.
• Perform constructability reviews on drawings and on-site packages.
• Select pipe supports for metal and plastic piping; design engineered supports when needed.
• Generate piping insulation and painting specifications.
• Perform piping safety reviews and assist in GA drawings.

Mid-Level Piping Engineer (OAK RIDGE) (Hybrid/Remote)

The necessary Job skills will include but are not limited to:

• Perform the following calculations:
  • Hydraulic
  • Equipment Sizing
  • Stress Analysis
  • Pressure Relief
  • Standard Pipe Support
• Generate piping specifications in accordance with ANSI B31.3 and ANSI B31.9.
• Work with multidiscipline team to plan work and provide pressure piping system designs and associated equipment.
• Perform Constructability reviews on drawings packages and at site locations.
• Select pipe supports for metal and plastic piping from catalog supports and design engineered supports when required.
• Generate Piping Insulation and Painting Specifications.
• Perform piping safety reviews.
• Assist in the development of General Arrangement Drawings.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science (BS) or higher in Mechanical Engineering
• 5 years' of engineering experience (Preferred)
• Less than 10% travel
• USA citizenship
• General Computer skills: Excel, WORD, Microsoft Office tools
• Technical Computer experience with PIPE-FLO, Caesar II, AFT Arrow, AFT Fathom (preferred)
• Engineering Technical Writing

In addition to the requirements above the ideal candidate may have these preferred skills:

• Candidates local to Oak Ridge, TN is preferred, However, candidates with applicable experience and qualifications that are not local to Oak Ridge, TN are encouraged to apply taking into consideration intermittent travel to the office may be required but not mandatory.

Essential Functions

Intermittent sitting, walking, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting, and lifting. Lifting requirements limited to 20 lbs. in the form of supplies, drawings, etc. Longest distance carried is 50 feet. Hand manipulation is required for simple grasping, pushing and pulling, and fine manipulation. Right and/or left hands utilized. Occasional need to reach and/or work above the shoulder, for supplies, as well as below the shoulder for same. No foot controls necessary. Must be alert to equipment in the field, there will be occasional travel, will work near construction job site equipment when in the field, occasional need to work near hazardous equipment and machinery, occasional need to walk on uneven ground, exposure to dust, gas or fumes, exposure to noise, extremes in temperature or humidity, and potential work at heights.

Equipment and Machines: Standard office PC, with software will be provided.

• U.S. Citizenship required.
• Valid driver’s license is required. Must be able to work in a team atmosphere.

Compensation Details

$123,000 - $163,000
