Job summary

The Vermont Department of Labor seeks a compassionate Job Center Specialist II to provide individualized career coaching and detailed case management to help clients reach employment and training goals.

The Vermont Department of Labor is committed to improving the lives of Vermonters by connecting individuals with employment, education, training, and career opportunities. We are seeking a compassionate, organized, and results-oriented professional to join our team as a Job Center Specialist II.

As a Job Center Specialist II, you will provide individualized career coaching and case management services to help customers achieve their employment and training goals. Through one-on-one meetings, you will assess customer needs, develop employment and training plans, coordinate supportive services, monitor progress, and connect individuals with employers, education providers, and community resources. You will build strong relationships with customers while helping them identify their strengths, overcome barriers to employment, and achieve meaningful career outcomes.

Success in this role requires balancing direct customer service with community engagement, employer outreach, and accurate case documentation. You will collaborate with partner organizations, represent the Department at workshops, presentations, hiring events, and community activities, and responsibly administer workforce program funding in accordance with program requirements. Strong communication, organization, sound judgment, and the ability to manage a diverse caseload while meeting performance expectations are essential.

Occasional travel throughout the assigned service region is required. Applicants must possess a valid driver's license and have access to reliable personal transportation.

Who May Apply

This position, Job Center Specialist II (Job Requisition #55509), is open to all State employees and external applicants. Please note that multiple positions in the same work location may be filled from this job posting.

Interviews clients who are often under significant personal and financial burden, and who may exhibit significant stress and anxiety and may exhibit uncooperative or angry behaviors. It is expected that JCS II staff will engage all clients in a manner that exhibits professionalism, sensitivity, fairness, tact and diplomacy, and helps clients understand the services available to them through VDOL programs. Supportive attitude and actions are expected to be demonstrated in dealing with clients.

Position is assigned to a regional office location, but there is an expectation for travel between multiple regional locations as assigned by the Department. Will include travel to employers' worksites, schools/technical centers and community partner meetings. May be required to attend evening meetings as assigned by supervisor. Valid driver's license and private means of transportation is required.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate's degree or higher in human resources field, public or business administration, or human services fields.

OR

Two (2) years or more experience in customer service, employment services, human services, human resources, or a closely related field.
