William Duff Architects (WDA) is seeking a Job Captain to join our residential studio. You will lead design development, documentation, and coordination across projects, working closely with project leaders, clients, and consultants.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or equivalent.
  • 3–10+ years of professional architectural experience in residential projects.
  • Proficiency in Revit; experience with AutoCAD, MS Office, Adobe Creative Suite, Bluebeam.
  • Experience with building codes and permitting processes.
  • Experience with all project phases and construction documentation.
  • Licensure and LEED AP encouraged.

Responsibilities

  • Produce coordinated, high‑quality construction documents.
  • Develop design and drawings in collaboration with project teams.
  • Coordinate building systems and product research.
  • Support permitting, code analysis and agency coordination.
  • Assist construction phase services including RFIs and submittals.
  • Mentor team members and contribute to WDA’s studio culture.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

William Duff Architects (WDA) is seeking a Job Captain with strong design, technical and documentation experience to join our residential studio.

We are an award-winning, people‑first architecture firm known for thoughtful, well‑crafted design across residential, hospitality, retail, and commercial work. Our studio is collaborative, design‑driven, and grounded in the belief that architecture should elevate everyday experience.

ABOUT THE ROLE

You will play an important role in supporting projects and teams through design, documentation, coordination, and construction, working closely with team leaders, clients, and consultants in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Produce coordinated, high‑quality construction documents
  • Develop design, architectural details and drawing packages in collaboration with project architects and project managers
  • Conduct and support building systems coordination and product research
  • Conduct and support code analysis, permitting, and agency coordination
  • Support construction through bidding and negotiation, RFIs, submittals, documentation updates and site visits
  • Support the team efforts to ensure design intent is carried through in the field
  • Communicate effectively with internal team, external parties and clients
  • Mentor team members and contribute to WDA’s collaborative studio culture
QUALIFICATIONS
  • 3 – 10+ years of professional architectural experience
  • Experience with high‑end single‑family or small multifamily residential projects. Experience with local jurisdictions is a plus.
  • Experience with all project phases and construction documentation
  • Familiarity with building codes and permitting processes
  • Highly proficient in Revit, with experience in producing visualizations
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, MS Office, Adobe Creative Suite, and Bluebeam
  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in Architecture from a four‑year college, university, or equivalent; or five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Documenting experience under the NCARB Architectural Experience Program (AXP) and actively pursuing licensure preferred.
  • Licensure, LEED AP, and additional certifications encouraged
