Job summary

SAS invites applications for the JMP Summer Internship in the Life Sciences division, Cary, NC. Interns will develop Python-based AI routines for JMP, testing and documenting results, and presenting improvements.

Open to pursuing a Master’s or PhD in CS, Biostatistics, or life-science analytics, with graduation not before December 2027. Hybrid in-person work with leadership access and a strong learning culture.

About the job:

The JMP Life Sciences division improves all JMP products with advanced solutions in a wide number of fields, including AI, machine learning, genomics, and clinical data science. We are also spearheading new developments for cutting edge implementations using modern LLMs, agentic design, context engineering, UI design, PyTorch, and XGBoost.

Role responsibilities for this internship include:

• Programming in Python to build new AI-integrated routines for JMP.
• Testing, benchmarking, documenting, and promoting this work (written and/or video).

What we’re looking for:

• Pursuing a Master’s or preferably a PhD in Computer Science, Biostatistics, Biochemistry, Clinical Statistics, Statistical Genomics, Engineering, or other life-science-analytic focused major, not graduating prior to December 2027
• Someone with very strong communication and coding skills – both written and verbal.
• Leadership abilities. Your past experiences demonstrate you’ll take initiative and go above and beyond the call of duty.
• You’re interested in the future of analytics and embrace technology.
• You’re curious, passionate, authentic, and accountable. These are ourvaluesand influence everything we do.

Timeline:

• Applications open: October 2026
• Interviews begin: October 2026 on a rolling basis.

• Internship:May 18, 2027 – August 6, 2027 (These dates are not flexible. To be considered for the JMPSummer Internship program, all interns must be available to start in person at Cary HQ on May 18, 2027. Summer internships last 12 weeks.)

Pay transparency: Hourly rates for SAS internships are based on an applicant’s year in school and the role they are hired into. Rates range from $15 to $30 per hour for associate and bachelor’s-level positions and from $29 to $49 per hour for master’s and Ph.D positions. Internship roles are not eligible for bonuses.
