Job summary

We are seeking an Assistant Wrestling Coach to join Sylvania's athletic program under the Head Coach. You will train student-athletes in technique, conditioning, and mental toughness while maintaining a safe, disciplined environment compliant with OHSAA standards.

Responsibilities include running practices, preparing for dual meets, and coaching corners, while emphasizing character, resilience, and academic eligibility for team members.

Qualifications

• Competitive wrestling background (high school, college, or club).
• Must have or obtain OHSAA PAP permit.
• CPR/AED, First Aid for Coaches.
• Concussion Training (NFHS / Ohio Dept. of Health).
• Lindsay's Law Training.
• Student Mental Health Training.
• Successful FBI/BCI background checks.

Responsibilities

• Teach wrestling techniques and strategy to student-athletes.
• Lead conditioning, weight-management, and safety protocols per OHSAA.
• Assist with daily practices, seed sheets, and coaching during meets.
• Foster discipline, work ethic, resilience, and sportsmanship.
• Monitor academic eligibility of team members.

Job description

Position Overview

We are seeking a knowledgeable and dedicated Assistant Wrestling Coach to join our athletic program. Working under the direction of the Head Coach, you will help train student-athletes in technique, conditioning, and mental toughness while fostering a safe, disciplined, and supportive environment compliant with OHSAA standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Technical Instruction: Teach fundamental and advanced wrestling techniques, including stance, takedowns, escapes, turns, and pin combinations.


• Conditioning & Safety: Lead weight-management guidance, physical conditioning, and mat practice while enforcing weight-control and skin-check protocols per OHSAA guidelines.


• Practice & Meet Prep: Assist with running daily practices, preparing tournament seed sheets, setting up mats, and coaching corners during dual meets and tournaments.


• Character & Sportsmanship: Emphasize discipline, work ethic, resilience, and respect on and off the mat.


• Academic Oversight: Help monitor team members' academic standing to ensure continuous eligibility.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Background in competitive wrestling (high school, collegiate, or club coaching/competing).


• Valid (or ability to obtain) OHSAA Pupil Activity Permit (PAP), including:
