Job summary

Resource Innovations is seeking a Lead Java Software Engineer to join its SaaS team. This is a hands-on technical leadership role focused on designing, developing, testing, deploying, and supporting cloud-based enterprise applications used by energy organizations.

The ideal candidate brings strong experience with Java, Spring Boot, Python, microservices, AWS, REST/SOAP, databases, messaging systems, and cloud-native development, with a passion for software craftsmanship and reliability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
• 8+ years of software development experience building high-performance, scalable enterprise apps.
• Strong proficiency in Java, Python, and Spring Boot.
• Experience with MySQL and at least one NoSQL database.
• Experience with OpenSearch/Elasticsearch, log analytics, and APM/observability tools.
• Experience with Apache Camel and messaging systems (RabbitMQ).
• AWS services and CI/CD pipelines; microservices architectures.

2. About the Role

Resource Innovations is seeking a Lead Java Software Engineer to join its growing Software as a Service (SaaS) team. This is a hands-on technical leadership role focused on designing, developing, testing, deploying, and supporting innovative cloud-based enterprise applications used by leading energy organizations.

The ideal candidate brings strong experience with Java, Spring Boot, Python, microservices, AWS, REST/SOAP services, databases, messaging systems, and cloud-native application development, along with a passion for software craftsmanship, scalability, reliability, and continuous improvement.

This is a remote position with occasional in-person office meetings for candidates residing in the following metro areas: San Francisco, CA; Chicago, IL; Phoenix, AZ; Denver, CO; Salt Lake City, UT; or Madison, WI.

Candidates must currently reside in the United States. Visa sponsorship or extensions are not available for this position.

3. Key Responsibilities

• Lead and participate in the full software development lifecycle for cloud-based enterprise applications, including design, development, testing, implementation, and production support.
• Design and develop scalable, cloud-native applications using Java, Spring Boot, and related frameworks.
• Build and integrate REST and SOAP web services, API gateways, relational databases, and microservices.
• Develop reliable and high-performance solutions that meet requirements for scalability, security, usability, and maintainability.
• Write clean, maintainable, well-documented code using established software engineering best practices and design patterns.
• Conduct code reviews and provide technical feedback to improve engineering quality and development standards.
• Troubleshoot complex technical issues, production incidents, and application performance bottlenecks.
• Optimize applications and services for performance, reliability, and scalability.
• Collaborate with QA, DevOps, Product, and Business teams in a distributed Agile environment.
• Use engineering tools and practices including Scrum, Jira, Confluence, and Git.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of development tools, frameworks, engineering processes, and AI-assisted development practices.
• Evaluate and recommend improvements to software architecture and engineering workflows.

4. Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 8+ years of software development experience building high-performance, reliable, and scalable enterprise applications.
• Strong proficiency in Java, Python, and Spring Boot.
• Experience with MySQL and at least one NoSQL database.
• Experience with OpenSearch or Elasticsearch, log analytics, and APM/observability tools.
• Experience with Apache Camel and messaging systems such as RabbitMQ.
• Experience with data pipelines and enterprise integrations.
• Experience with AWS services and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience designing and implementing microservices architectures.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, distributed environment.
• Strong collaborative mindset with a focus on software quality and maintainability.

5. Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Kubernetes.
• Experience with Angular or related web technologies.
• Hands-on experience or strong familiarity with AI-assisted coding and development tools, such as GitHub Copilot, Claude, or equivalent tools.
• Knowledge of the energy industry and related software systems.
• Interest in sustainability and a passion for developing technology that contributes to meaningful environmental impact.

• The base salary range for this position is $85,000–$160,000 USD. Final compensation is determined based on factors including experience, education, skills, and location.
