Job Purpose

General upkeep of the office building. Ensure the building(s) are clean and in orderly condition. Perform heavy cleaning duties such as cleaning floors, washing walls, glass, removing rubbish, notifying management of repairs, cleaning snow or debris from sidewalks, vacuuming, cleaning bathrooms and performing small repair work.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming.
• Gather and empty trash.
• Service, clean and supply restrooms.
• Clean and polish furniture and fixtures.
• Clean windows, glass partitions and mirrors with soapy water or other cleaners.
• Dust furniture, walls, machines and equipment.
• Mix cleaning solutions according to specifications.
• Strip, seal, finish and polish floors.
• Drive vehicles necessary for cleaning work, including vans, industrial trucks or vacuum cleaners.
• Follow procedures for chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage.
• Move heavy furniture, equipment and supplies by hand or hand trucks.
• Notify managers of major repairs or additions needed.
• Remove snow from sidewalks, driveways, parking areas using snowplows, blowers and shovels, and spread snow melting chemicals.
• Requisition supplies and equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties.
• Spray insecticides and fumigants to prevent infestation.
• Other duties as required by supervisor.

Other Requirements

• Basic knowledge of repair techniques or job training.
• Experience as a custodian.

Advanced Skills

• Sanitation for food facility.
• Finishing/refinishing floors.
• Forklift driver.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least 6 months experience.

Language Skills

• Must be able to effectively communicate, read, write and speak English.
• Ability to read, analyze and write.
• Ability to effectively follow orders and respond to questions from management.

Physical Demands

• Occasionally reach, lift or move up to 50 pounds.
• Can crouch or crawl under a 48" high shelf. Can ascend and descend a 14" step.
• Can activate phone systems with keyboards and buttons.
• Works in indoor office environment; repetitive hand motion.
• Required to talk, hear, stand, walk.
• Can work extra continuous 8 hours if required.
• Can read and discern visual images with 20/20 corrected vision.
• Can speak and communicate clearly over telephone.
• In sound physical health as determined by a physician with no evidence of controlled substances use.

Work Environment

Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles. Noise level ranges from quiet to moderately loud.
