Job summary

Masonic Homes of California is seeking a dedicated janitorial associate to maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for staff, residents, and visitors at Acacia Creek. Responsibilities include routine floor and carpet care, window cleaning, and proper waste handling in a multi-purpose residential setting.

The role requires adherence to safety procedures, ability to follow schedules, and courteous interaction with residents.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine housekeeping and maintenance tasks as directed.
• Sweep, mop, buff, and strip floors and care for carpets.
• Clean windows and maintain cleanliness of resident apartments and common areas.
• Dispose of trash and chemicals properly and follow safety protocols.
• Move furniture, transport supplies, and operate janitorial equipment safely.
• Complete work orders and maintain inventory of cleaning supplies.
• Assist maintenance staff with non-technical tasks as needed.
• Ensure resident privacy and maintain a respectful, courteous attitude.

JOB SUMMARY

Performs assigned Janitorial tasks as directed and maintains a clean and comfortable environment for staff, residents, and visitors of Acacia Creek.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Receives, understands, and follows all housekeeping, maintenance, and facilities schedules, procedures, and instructions.
• Perform routine floor care including sweeping, mopping, buffing tiled and concrete surfaces.
• Perform routine carpet care including vacuuming, extracting, and spin bonneting
• Perform advanced floor care including stripping, prepping, and applying various sealants and finishes
• Follows all Safety protocol as outlined in established procedures
• Perform window cleanings
• Dispose of all trash and chemicals in proper containers and relines trash receptacles with plastic liners
• Use of utility golf carts and trailers to transport items
• Move furniture and equipment as required
• Performs minor repairs
• Performs replacement of batteries, light bulbs, air filters and similar consumables
• On an annual basis, will perform deep clean in all resident apartments
• Will follow guidelines for procedure and standard of cleanliness
• Attend seminars, in-services, educational or technical classes as necessary
• Maintains records of work performed by completing work orders
• Maintains inventory of materials on hand
• Maintains facility key system as established by supervisor
• Participate in management of utilities
• Participates in surveillance activities to recognize and eliminate potential hazards in and around the buildings and grounds
• Relates tactfully and courteously with residents
• Regular attendance clean Resident Apartments per cleanliness standards as needed and other Janitorial Duties

EXAMPLE OF DAILY WORK

• Clears and maintains assigned resident apartments, hallways, elevators, stairwells, lobbies, common areas, restrooms, offices, activity rooms, dining/service areas, and other designated spaces in accordance with established cleanliness standards.
• Performs apartment cleaning associated with resident move‑ins, move‑outs, transfers, vacancies, special projects, and annual deep‑cleaning programs.
• Cleans and disinfects high‑touch surfaces, including door handles, elevator buttons, handrails, light switches, countertops, fixtures, and other frequently contacted surfaces.
• Performs cleaning and sanitation of resident and public restrooms, including toilets, sinks, mirrors, floors, fixtures, and related surfaces.
• Responds promptly to spills, bodily fluids, odors, trash accumulation, and other sanitation or environmental concerns.
• Performs routine cleaning of elevators, elevator lobbies, corridors, stairwells, entryways, parking areas, and other high‑traffic areas.
• Maintains assigned areas in a clean, safe, sanitary, and orderly condition throughout the workday, not only during scheduled cleaning periods.
• Uses cleaning chemicals, disinfectants, equipment, tools, and personal protective equipment in accordance with manufacturer instructions, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and established safety procedures.
• Properly labels, stores, transports, and disposes of cleaning chemicals and hazardous materials in accordance with applicable requirements and facility procedures.
• Operates and maintains janitorial equipment, including vacuums, carpet extractors, floor machines, buffers, auto‑scrubbers, pressure washers, carts, and other equipment as assigned.
• Performs routine inspection of janitorial equipment and reports damaged, malfunctioning, or unsafe equipment to the supervisor.
• Reports leaks, water intrusion, plumbing issues, electrical concerns, damaged flooring, broken fixtures, pest activity, mold/mildew concerns, security concerns, and other building deficiencies to management or Maintenance.
• Assists Maintenance personnel with non‑technical tasks when directed.
• Maintains appropriate security and confidentiality when entering resident apartments and restricted areas.
• Respects resident property and immediately reports lost, damaged, or suspicious items according to facility procedures.
• Assists with preparation for inspections, special events, resident activities, and other facility needs.
• Assists with emergency preparedness and response activities as assigned, including cleanup following incidents and maintaining clear and accessible emergency exits and pathways.
• Maintains clear hallways, stairwells, exits, and other egress routes by promptly removing trash, equipment, supplies, and other obstructions.
• May assist with snow, ice, rain, or other weather‑related cleanup and safety activities as assigned.
• Performs other duties consistent with the position and operational needs of the community.

RESIDENT SERVICE EXPECTATIONS

• Treats residents, families, visitors, and coworkers with dignity, courtesy, patience, and respect.
• Maintains resident privacy and confidentiality while performing work in occupied apartments and common areas.
• Communicates respectfully with residents and promptly refers resident requests or concerns outside the scope of the position to the appropriate supervisor or department.
• Does not discuss confidential resident, personnel, medical, financial, or facility information with unauthorized individuals.
• Immediately reports suspected abuse, neglect, exploitation, unsafe conditions, or other concerns through established reporting procedures, as applicable to the position and facility.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during the workday.
• Ability to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, pull, and perform repetitive cleaning motions.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull cleaning supplies, equipment, trash, furniture, and other materials within the requirements established for the position.
• Ability to safely operate janitorial equipment and transport supplies using carts or other approved equipment.
• Ability to work on different floor levels and safely use stairs when required.
• Ability to work in areas with varying temperatures, odors, dust, cleaning chemicals, and other conditions normally associated with janitorial work, while using required protective equipment.
• Ability to safely perform assigned duties with or without reasonable accommodation

WORK ENVIRONMENT / SCHEDULE

Work is performed throughout a multi‑story residential community, including resident apartments, common areas, service areas, mechanical/service spaces, exterior areas, and other assigned locations. Position may require working independently for portions of the shift and may involve frequent interaction with residents, families, visitors, vendors, and employees. Schedule may include weekends, holidays, early mornings, evenings, or other shifts based on operational needs. May be required to respond to urgent cleaning or environmental situations during scheduled working hours. Schedule, assignments, and work locations may change based on resident needs, staffing, emergencies, special projects, and operational requirements.
