Position Summary
The University at Buffalo, department of Campus Operations is seeking aJanitor to perform a variety of cleaning andunskilled maintenance tasks, and assist with supervisinglower-level cleaning staff. They are responsible for the cleaningand upkeep of assigned areas in university buildings, surroundinggrounds, and walkways.
Duties Include:
- Perform general cleaning and disinfection tasks
- Collect and remove trash, recycling, compost, and transport tocentralized location for disposal
- Replace misplaced items, furniture, and equipment
- Washes floors, corridors, stairwells, walls, partitions, andwindows using mops, detergents, brushes, and other cleaningdevices
- Vacuums, strips and waxes floors, and shampoos carpets, usingmanual or mechanical equipment
- Scrubs and cleans restrooms and showers, using hand-operatedequipment and cleaning agents; and unclogs toilets, traps, andsinks
- Replaces lightbulbs, and dusts or washes light fixtures andhigh places, such as ceilings, using ladders, other appropriateequipment, and tools
- Polishes wood and metal surfaces, fixtures, furniture, andequipment
- Moves, and arranges furniture and equipment in connection withcleaning tasks or in preparation for meetings, events, and otheractivities
- Sweeps, removes snow, and salts walkways using mechanical andmanual equipment
- Reports and recommends necessary repairs and maintenancerequiring skilled trades work to supervisor
- Prepares, mixes, and dilutes cleaning solutions followingmanufacturer directions
- Assists with the supervision of lower-level staff. Assignstasks; provides instructions, training and assistance
- Demonstrates proper cleaning procedures
- Reviews work of teams
- Monitors time and attendance
- Other duties as assigned

- Must be physically able to perform the tasks of the position.

Preferred Qualifications
Physical Demands
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position and position self (e.g., stoop, bend, and stretch) for long periods of time. Must have the ability to perform medium to heavy physical labor; operate various cleaning equipment and products; and ascend/descend ladders and scaffolds.
- May be assigned to clean laboratories, operating rooms or hospital, school or custodial care settings that require a high degree of cleanliness and disinfectant processes that must be followed to minimize the spread of infection.
- The ability to transport and remove snow from walkways and areas adjacent to buildings.
Salary Range
$38,235
