Job summary

Academy of Art University is seeking a full-time Janitor to maintain 180 New Montgomery Street buildings in San Francisco. Hours are Monday–Friday, 7:00am–3:30pm, with occasional evening, weekend, or holiday shifts.

Responsibilities include cleaning classrooms, offices, restrooms, and common areas, plus minor maintenance and setup for classes and events. Benefits include health insurance and tuition-free undergraduate courses for employees.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Prior janitorial or custodial experience preferred, especially in an educational or institutional setting.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Basic understanding of cleaning equipment and supplies.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks including bending, standing, and walking for extended periods.
• Ability to push/pull trash dumpsters.

Responsibilities

• Clean and sanitize classrooms, offices, restrooms, hallways, and common areas.
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, and polish floors.
• Empty trash and recycling bins and transport waste to designated disposal areas.
• Perform minor maintenance tasks such as replacing light bulbs and reporting facility issues.
• Assist with room setups for classes, meetings, and events (e.g., moving furniture or equipment).
• Follow safety procedures and use cleaning chemicals in accordance with university guidelines.
• Respond to cleaning emergencies or special requests in a timely manner.
• Secure buildings as directed after cleaning shifts.
• Perform other duties as assigned
• Restroom cleaning: empty trash and wipe receptacles, polish dispensers, clean and disinfect fixtures, replenish supplies.

This role is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment in University buildings. This role supports the University's mission by ensuring that academic, administrative, and public areas are well-maintained and conducive to learning and work.

The hours for this role are Monday through Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm. but may occasionally include evening, weekend, or holiday shifts depending on University needs

Key Responsibilities

• Clean and sanitize classrooms, offices, restrooms, hallways, and common areas.

Restroom cleaning

• Empty and wipe out all trash and sanitary waste receptacles.
• Polish all metal and mirrors.
• Clean and polish all dispensers.
• Clean and disinfect washbasins, toilet bowls, and urinals.
• Disinfect underside and tops of toilet seats.
• Spot clean tile walls and toilet partitions.
• Spot clean walls around washbasins.
• Mop all lavatory floors with germicidal solution
• Replenish soap, towels, tissue, and seat cover dispensers.
