ESS Metron prides itself on offering very competitive salaries and benefits while providing a company culture that emphasizes teamwork, business and personal growth, and a competitive spirit where making money and enjoying your work are not mutually exclusive.

About this role

The Janitor keeps ESS Metron’s manufacturing facility, offices, and common areas clean, safe, and well organized. This role exists because a clean, orderly plant is essential to the safety of our team, the quality of the power distribution equipment we build, and the impression we make on customers who visit for tours and factory acceptance tests. Working closely with production, maintenance, and office staff, you will handle routine cleaning, waste and recycling, restocking, and general upkeep across the site. Your work directly supports a safe, productive workplace where everyone can do their best work.

What you’ll be doing
  • Clean and maintain production areas, offices, conference rooms, break rooms, and restrooms on a set schedule so they are consistently safe, sanitary, and presentable.
  • Sweep, mop, scrub, and vacuum floors, and operate floor care equipment such as auto-scrubbers, floor buffers, and shop vacuums to keep walkways and work areas free of debris and slip hazards.
  • Collect and remove trash, recycling, and scrap materials (e.g., cardboard, wood, metal shavings, and wire scraps) and take them to designated containers and dumpsters.
  • Restock restrooms and break rooms with soap, paper products, and other supplies, and track inventory so supplies never run out.
  • Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces, including door handles, time clocks, shared tools, and lunch tables, to help keep employees healthy.
  • Prepare offices, conference rooms, and shop areas ahead of customer visits, plant tours, and factory acceptance tests.
  • Identify and report needed repairs, spills, leaks, or unsafe conditions to supervisors or maintenance promptly.
  • Safely handle, label, and store cleaning chemicals in accordance with Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and company procedures.
What you’ll have
  • High school diploma or GED preferred, but not required.
  • 1+ year of janitorial, custodial, or facilities experience, preferably in a manufacturing, industrial, or commercial setting; we will train the right candidate.
  • Familiarity with commercial cleaning equipment and supplies, and the ability to use chemicals safely and correctly.
  • Basic understanding of workplace safety practices; OSHA 10 or forklift experience is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in keeping a workspace clean and organized.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently and manage time across a full cleaning schedule.
  • Good communication skills and a team-player attitude when working around production and office staff.
Physical requirements and work environment
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift, push, and carry up to 50 lbs. (e.g., trash bags, supply boxes, and scrap bins).
  • Ability to work onsite in a manufacturing environment, including a shop floor with heavy equipment and moving forklifts.
  • Exposure to high noise levels, dust, varying temperatures, and cleaning chemicals.
  • Ability to climb ladders and step stools to reach high areas when needed.
Safety requirements
  • PPE & Compliance: Strictly adhere to all site safety protocols and wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times (e.g., safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, steel-toed boots).
  • Hazard Awareness: Proactively identify, report, and mitigate potential workplace hazards or unsafe conditions, such as spills, trip hazards, and blocked exits.
  • Standards: Maintain compliance with OSHA regulations, hazard communication (SDS) requirements, and internal safety training.
  • Organization: Keep all work areas clean and free of obstructions to prevent workplace accidents.
Compensation and Benefits
  • Salary commensurate with experience.
  • 401(k) retirement plan: Includes a generous company match.
