Marmon Industrial Energy and Infrastructure (MIEI) – Mount Pleasant is part of Marmon Holdings, a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway.

General Position Summary

The Jacket Operator is responsible for setting up and running the final extrusion on assembled product. The Jacket Operator is also responsible for producing a quality product in a safe and efficient manner while promoting a team atmosphere. Help problem solve and proactively seek ways to improve the Jacketing process and maintain all equipment in the Jacket work center.

Essential Duties
  • Strive to achieve continuous improvement in all activities, processes, and with all projects at Dekoron.
  • Set-up and Run the Jacketing extrusion.
  • Set-up and Run for different product types for different customer specifications.
  • Understand instructions for handling of packets with rejects.
  • Read and understand work orders.
  • Document deviations.
  • Reprocess nonconforming product.
  • Set-up and Shut Down the jet printer for the jacketing extrusion.
  • Ensure the proper handling of short footage for the jacketing extrusion.
  • Understand the procedures for handling Corrective and Preventive Actions.
  • Work closely with the Quality Assurance department to ensure that the product meets the specifications.
  • Monitor the shelf life of the marking inks/thinners and follow procedures for proper identification.
  • Follow procedures for the calibration and maintenance of the Target System optical measuring devices.
  • Clean and maintain all tooling associated with the Jacket line equipment.
  • Keep work area clean and organized.
  • Recommend process improvements.
  • Work as a team with other Jacket Operators and other Dekoron employees.
  • Ability to distinguish between different colors of product.
  • Promote safety in all processes and activities.
  • Assist with training of new employees; assist with cross‑training of current employees.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Preferred
  • High School diploma or education or GED, required.
  • Technical training, preferred.
  • Licenses or certifications are not required for this position.
  • Experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting with responsibilities in the area of extrusion is preferred, but not required.
Knowledge and Skills Preferred
  • Monitoring – watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
  • Equipment selection – determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job.
  • Control precision – adjust controls of the machine to exact positions.
  • Communication – understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Getting information – observing, receiving, and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources.
  • Cognitive thinking – problem solving, prioritizing activities, allocating resources, maintaining an adequate supply of materials, making sound decisions, and recommending solutions in troubleshooting and repairing in a timely and effective manner.
  • Ability to make quick decisive decisions concerning product and machine adjustments needed to ensure product quality.

  • Evaluating information to determine compliance with standards – using relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, or standards.

  • Ability to communicate with supervisors, peers or subordinates by telephone, in written form, email, or in person.
Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements
  • Near vision – ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of observer).
  • Far vision – ability to see details at a distance.
  • Manual dexterity – ability to quickly move hands, hand together with arm, or two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.
  • Multi‑limb coordination – ability to coordinate two or more limbs while sitting, standing, or lying down.

Schedule: Weekends Fri‑Sun 12 hrs – Either 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. or 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
