Job summary

Austin Industries seeks an experienced Industrial Wastewater Treatment Operator to join our 24/7 Operations team. The Senior Facilities Wastewater Technician will operate and maintain complex systems (Activated Sludge, RO, MBR, and more) and troubleshoot root causes for optimized facility performance.

Strong teamwork and safety focus required for a fast-paced industrial environment. Responsibilities include monitoring equipment, performing rounds, updating SOPs and certification records,

Qualifications

  • Experience with municipal and industrial wastewater treatment processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex P&IDs and control schemas.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with multi-variable data.
  • Experience operating and maintaining large-scale wastewater treatment equipment.

Job description

Industrial Wastewater Treatment Operator

As a Senior Facilities Wastewater Technician for our 24/7 Operations team, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining assigned industrial wastewater systems including but not limited to: Activated Sludge, Multimedia Filters, Reverse Osmosis, Ion Exchange, Ultrafiltration, Brine Concentrator, Crystallizers, Boilers, Centrifuges, Heat Exchangers, Biological Nutrient Removers (BNR) and Membrane Bioreactors (MBR) systems in such manner as to ensure optimal facility operations. The senior technician is expected to troubleshoot, to the root cause, complex issues and provide recommendations for resolution.

Essential Functions
  • Monitor Equipment/Process: monitors equipment and systems in current state and proactively looks for ways to improve system reliability. Monitors the work of others in the area of responsibility to mitigate impacts to equipment and systems.
  • Teamwork and Communication: able to work well in a team environment and effectively communicate throughout organization
  • Perform equipment rounds and readings. Able to access all equipment areas and systems including but not limited to equipment rooms, chemical areas (including containment bays) and catwalks.
  • Responds to equipment/system failures and performs initial troubleshooting.
  • Creates, maintains, and adds improvements to operational SOPs.
  • Creates, maintains, and adds improvements to the operations certification system.
  • Mentors and trains more junior Technicians on process and procedures.
  • Executes improvement projects outside of normal operational duties to improve the area.

Competencies/Experience Needed
  • Strong understanding of municipal and Industrial Wastewater treatment processes
  • Demonstrates innovation by offering innovative solutions, designs, and measurements
  • Must have strong multivariable analytical skills
  • Ability to read and use complicated P&IDs
  • Strong knowledge of industrial and municipal practices of Wastewater Treatment Systems
  • Understand the function of basic system equipment such as transfer valves, pumps, hydraulic systems, and high-pressure air systems.
  • Typing skills with minimum 30 wpm.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations
  • Knowledge of basic record keeping techniques.
  • Ability to work shifts
  • Work independently.
  • Meet schedules and timelines.
  • Effective communication skills with internal and external customers
  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to assess situations and set priorities
  • Strong problem-solving ability
  • Skilled in MS Office: Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • Flexible, Adaptable and team oriented
Work Environment

All work is performed in an industrial environment.

Physical Demands
  • Must be able to lift >45 lbs
  • Able to stand and/or walk for 10+ hrs daily, able to climb stairs and ladders
  • May perform repetitive hand and wrist motions and may sometimes have to twist and bend body
  • Vision – May be exposed to yellow lights, blinking lights
  • Able to discern audible alarms
  • Potential to work with materials which contain hazardous chemicals
Required Education And Experience
  • TCEQ Wastewater certifications a plus
  • Experience with Siemens, FMCS and Honeywell SCADA systems
  • Power plant, municipal or high-volume manufacturing experience preferred

Employees must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and meet all customer, site, regulatory, medical, and fitness-for-duty requirements applicable to the position.

Must be able to perform all job duties while maintaining a constant commitment to safety, quality, and productivity expectations.
