Job summary

State of Indiana, Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) seeks an Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) system field technician at our Central Office location. You’ll maximize safety, security and efficiency for the traveling public through preventive maintenance and troubleshooting.

The role requires strong knowledge of network hardware/software, LAN concepts, and networking protocols, plus 3+ years of relevant experience and a CDL within 90 days.

Qualifications

• Extensive knowledge of network PC/LAN communications hardware/software.
• Extensive knowledge of local area network concepts.
• Extensive knowledge of computer programming including computer languages and testing of programs.
• Extensive knowledge of equipment used.
• Extensive knowledge of most recent technical developments in the hardware field.
• Ability to read and understand complicated technical manuals on hardware, software, database design and database administration.
• Considerable knowledge of network operating systems in use by Indiana State Government.
• Considerable knowledge of networking protocols.

Responsibilities

• Install network software/hardware.
• Train users on network software/hardware.
• Provide problem solving or determination and support to ensure proper escalation during periods of outages.
• Provide internal analysis during periods of degraded system performance.
• Perform studies to define solutions.
• Provide integrated customer support to all users on hardware/software problems.
• Attend all meetings involving server hardware.
• Provide interface with vendor support services groups.
• Assist in the evaluation of vendor products to determine which best meets needs.
• Present information to management regarding purchase of hardware, software and modem equipment.
