Job summary

Montgomery-Public-Schools is seeking an Instructional Aide to support assigned school(s) with classroom operations and student assistance. The role reports to the Principal and assigned teachers and follows a 185-day contract year with a salary-based pay type.

The ideal candidate will hold a high school diploma or GED with 48 college hours or an associate degree and pass the Workkeys test as required by the Alabama State Department of Education, adhering to employment suitability criteria.

  • Assists in providing a well-organized, smoothly functioning class environment
  • Works with students to reinforce skills and concepts introduced by the teacher
  • Monitors student progress
  • Attends weekly planning sessions with classroom teachers
  • Assists in completing activities, documents progress and notes comments
  • Turns in weekly plan sheets to administrators
  • Provides intervention for individual students
  • Provides assistance with small group instruction in the classroom
  • Assists in administering diagnostic and assessment tests
  • Attends scheduled workshops and training

Job description

Position Title: INSTRUCTIONAL AIDE

Location: Assigned School(s)

Pay Grade: Salary Schedule

Pay Type: Salary-Non Exempt Retirement: RSA

Reports To: Principal and Assigned Teachers

Contract Work Year: 185 Days

QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Must have a high school diploma or a GED and a minimum of 48 Semester hours of credit from a four-year accredited college and/or university or an associate’s degree from an accredited post-secondary institution, or
  2. Passed the Workkeys Test as mandated by the Alabama State Department of Education
  3. Must meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of specified information as required
  • Ability to conference with visitors in person or on the telephone in a pleasant, courteous manner
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to use excellent English, grammar, spelling, and punctuation
  • Ability to use computer skills required to do spreadsheets, word processing and record keeping
  • Ability to distribute documents in an efficient and effective manner
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with others
  • Ability to organize materials and maintain accurate records
  • Knowledge of school system functions, departments, personnel, and schools necessary for the efficient and effective processing of communications
  • Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed in a fast-paced, high-intensive work environment
  • Ability to work an expected workday of eight (8) hours, or more if necessary
  • Ability to lift twenty-five (25) pounds and transport a short distance
  • Ability to drive from school to school in the school district and to professional meetings
  • Demonstrates professional ethics
