Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; Masters degree preferred.
  • Tennessee ESL endorsement (PreK-12) required.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle for daily travel between district schools.
  • Background check and fingerprinting as required by the state.

Responsibilities

  • Administer state language proficiency screenings and annual assessments (ELPA21 / Dynamic Screening System).
  • Plan and deliver differentiated ESL instruction across multiple sites.
  • Travel between elementary, middle, and high schools within the district.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers and administrators to modify materials and accommodations.
  • Maintain ILPs, student records and program compliance documentation.
  • Engage families and communicate with non-English-speaking parents or guardians.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, PLCs, and school activities as scheduling permits.

Position Overview & Purpose

Morgan County Schools is seeking a dedicated, passionate Itinerant ESL Teacher to provide targeted language instruction and academic support to English Learners (ELs). This role involves daily travel between multiple school campuses within the district to serve students across various grade levels. The ideal candidate believes that all children can learn at high levels, possesses a deep commitment to closing the achievement gap, and is eager to help students prepare for college or future careers.

Based on the Morgan County School State Salary Scale (plus mileage reimbursement per district policy)

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Screening & Assessment: Administer required state language proficiency screenings and annual assessments (ELPA21 / Dynamic Screening System) to evaluate language growth and accurately determine student placement.
  • Instructional Delivery: Plan and deliver high-quality, differentiated ESL instruction appropriate to each student's English language proficiency level across multiple sites.
  • District Travel: Manage a flexible daily schedule to travel efficiently between assigned elementary, middle, and high schools within Morgan County.
  • Collaboration: Partner with multiple general education teachers and school administrators to modify classroom materials, implement accommodations, and monitor student academic success.
  • Compliance Tracking: Maintain accurate and timely documentation for student Individualized Learning Plans (ILPs), student records, and program compliance across assigned schools.
  • Family Engagement: Promote communication and build strong relationships between the schools and non-English-speaking parents or guardians.
  • School Culture: Participate actively in faculty meetings, professional learning communities (PLCs), and school activities where scheduling permits.
Job Qualifications & Requirements
  • Education: Minimum of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university (Masters degree preferred).
  • Licensure: Holds a valid Tennessee Teacher License with an active ESL / English as a Second Language Endorsement (PreK-12).
  • Transportation & Travel: Must possess a valid driver's license, a reliable personal vehicle, and proof of insurance for mandatory daily travel between district schools.
  • Background Check: Must clear a criminal background check and fingerprinting required by the state of Tennessee for school employment.
  • Performs other related tasks as assigned by Title III Supervisor and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of Google GSuite of Apps including Google Chrome, GMail, andother apps, extensions, and programs
  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiates instruction based upon student learning styles.
  • Knowledge of elementary school curriculum and concepts.
  • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  • Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
