Job summary

Keck Hospital of USC seeks an IT Training Specialist to educate staff on new technology and applications, including end user and new employee training, post-implementation optimization, and instructional design across labs, eLearning, webinars, and large-scale trainings.

Responsibilities include scheduling classes, developing self-paced learning, manuals, and performance assessment, while coordinating with project teams in a dynamic healthcare environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.
  • 2–3 years of IT training experience, preferably in a healthcare setting.
  • Experience working in large and dynamic project environment.
  • Proficiency in Cerner Bundle of Applications, Particularly Registration, Scheduling, and PowerChart.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of applications.
  • Significant experience training business applications such as Kronos, Lawson, etc.
  • Solid knowledge of the workflow of business and clinical applications.
  • Mastery of an eLearning authoring tool, preferably Captivate.
  • Significant hands-on experience developing a range of quick reference guides.
  • Mastery of utilizing SnagIt.
  • Proven track record of excellence as a professional.

Responsibilities

  • Present information using a variety of instructional techniques and formats (role playing, team exercises, group discussions, videos, lectures).
  • Schedule classes based on classroom, equipment, and instructor availability.
  • Create self-paced learning avenues using video, audio and other computer-based learning tools.
  • Develop or obtain training procedure manuals and guides and course materials.
  • Develop classroom style training programs for new applications and hardware.
  • Monitor, evaluate and record training activities and program effectiveness.
  • Evaluate training materials prepared by departmental instructors (outlines, text, handouts).
  • Assess training needs through surveys, interviews with employees, focus groups, and consultations with managers or end users.
  • Design, plan, organize and direct orientation and training for employees on IT applications.
  • Keep up with technology developments by reading current journals, books and magazines.

Job description

An IT Training Specialist is needed to serve in the capacity of an educator in which s/he will perform a range of educational support roles for newly implemented technology and applications including end user training, new employee training, post implementation optimization and stabilization training, remediation training and instructional design and development of a collection of educational settings such as computer lab learning, eLearning, webinars, classroom, large conference rooms, etc. The Training Specialist will also be responsible for small project management initiatives and investigation intermittent technical problems.Essential DutiesPresent information, using a variety of instructional techniques and formats such as role playing, team exercises, group discussions, videos and lectures.Schedule classes based on availability of classrooms, equipment, and instructors.Create “self paced” learning avenues using video, audio and other computer based learning tools.Organize and develop, or obtain, training procedure manuals and guides and course materials such as handouts and visual materials.Develop specific classroom style training programs for new applications and hardware.Monitor, evaluate and record training activities and program effectiveness.Evaluate training materials prepared by departmental instructors, such as outlines, text, and handouts.Assess training needs through surveys, interviews with employees, focus groups, and/or consultation with managers, or end users.Design, plan, organize and direct orientation and training for employees on Information Technology applications.Keep up with technology developments in area of expertise by reading current journals, books and magazine articles.QualificationsReq Bachelor’s Degree Degree in a related field.Req 2-3 years Proven IT training experience, preferably in a healthcare setting.Pref Experience working in large and dynamic project environment.Req Competency in Cerner Bundle of Applications, Particularly Registration, Scheduling, and PowerChartReq Proficiency in of Microsoft Office suite of applicationsReq Significant experience training business applications such as Kronos, Lawson, etc.Req Solid knowledge of the workflow of business and clinical applicationsReq Mastery of an eLearning authoring tool, preferably CaptivateReq Significant hands-on experience developing a range of quick reference guidesReq Mastery of Utilizing SnagItReq Proven track record of excellence as a professionalReq Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date.
