Job summary

NuAxis is seeking an experienced Senior QA Engineer (IT Tester – Level IV) to lead test strategy for legacy modernization. You will build automated regression suites, validate accessibility, security, and performance, and drive release readiness across critical government-facing systems.

Role Summary

Senior quality engineer responsible for the test strategy of a legacy modernization workstream. Builds the automated regression safety net that makes it possible to re-platform applications without breaking mission-critical services, and validates functional parity, accessibility, security, and performance of every release.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the master test strategy and test plans covering functional, regression, integration, migration/parity, accessibility, security, and performance testing.
• Design and automate regression suites (e.g., Selenium, Playwright, Cypress) and API test suites (e.g., Postman/Newman, REST Assured) integrated into CI/CD.
• Execute data migration validation: source-to-target reconciliation, record counts, field-level fidelity, and business rule parity.
• Perform Section 508 / WCAG 2.1 AA testing using approved tools and assistive technology, and document remediation requirements.
• Conduct performance and load testing (e.g., JMeter, Locust, k6) and report against agreed service levels.
• Support security testing activities: scan triage, vulnerability retest, and evidence collection for assessment teams.
• Manage defect lifecycle in Jira; drive triage, root cause, and release-readiness decisions with objective quality metrics.
• Coordinate and support user acceptance testing with business stakeholders.
• Lead QA automation strategy and framework engineering, with Cypress as a primary web UI automation tool; build maintainable end-to-end, component, smoke, and regression suites using reusable commands, fixtures, data setup, tagging, reporting, and parallel execution patterns.
• Integrate Cypress and other automated test suites into GitLab CI/CD pipelines as quality gates; publish machine-readable and human-readable test results, retain evidence, and fail builds/releases when agreed acceptance thresholds are not met.
• Automate API and integration validation for REST services and event-driven interfaces, including authentication, negative/error paths, retries, schema/contract checks, and Kafka-related workflows where applicable.
• Execute cross-browser and responsive testing across current and previous major browser versions and desktop/mobile form factors; validate page/form performance and user workflows under normal and peak load.
• Maintain requirements-to-test-to-defect traceability in Jira, including linkage among roadmap/epics, user stories, tasks, test cases, automation, defects, and release evidence.
• Produce release test plans and test reports covering functional, regression, integration, migration/parity, Section 508, security, mobile/browser, performance, and production validation; support Government review and release approval.
• Use AI-assisted test generation/maintenance only through DOL-approved secure tools; independently review, validate, and maintain all generated test assets.

Required Skills & Experience

• 8+ years in software quality assurance, with 4+ years in test automation on enterprise web applications.
• Proven test automation engineering — hands‑on framework build, not just script execution.
• Strong SQL for back‑end and migration validation.
• API testing experience and understanding of REST integration patterns.
• Section 508 / WCAG 2.1 AA testing proficiency with assistive technologies (NVDA/JAWS) and validation tools (ANDI, axe).
• Performance testing experience with an industry‑standard tool.
• CI/CD integration of automated tests (GitLab CI or equivalent).
• Agile/Scrum delivery experience and rigorous defect management discipline.
• Advanced hands‑on Cypress experience, including framework architecture, custom commands, fixtures, intercept/network stubbing, environment/configuration management, retries, screenshots/videos/artifacts, reporting, and CI execution.
• Strong JavaScript/TypeScript skills for test automation development and debugging; ability to design scalable automation rather than only record or execute scripts.
• Demonstrated experience integrating automated UI/API tests into GitLab CI/CD or equivalent pipelines with release quality gates and actionable reporting.
• Experience testing Drupal and .NET applications, complex public‑facing forms, authentication (including Login.gov/OIDC/SAML patterns), file uploads, APIs, and data‑driven workflows.
• Ability to create automation‑friendly test data, protect PII, and validate DB2/MySQL or comparable relational data using SQL.
• Experience producing formal test evidence suitable for federal security, accessibility, ATO, and release‑management reviews.

Preferred Qualifications

• DHS Trusted Tester certification; ISTQB certification.
• Experience testing Drupal and .NET applications in the same portfolio.
• Kafka/event‑driven integration testing experience.
• Use of AI-assisted test generation and test maintenance tooling.
• Cypress certification/training or demonstrable ownership of a production‑scale Cypress framework.
• Experience with accessibility automation (e.g., axe‑core/pa11y) integrated with Cypress or CI/CD while retaining required manual assistive‑technology testing.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; equivalent experience considered.
