Job description

The IT Technical Architect is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the organization’s technology architecture to ensure alignment with business goals. This role provides strategic technical leadership, oversees complex solution designs, and ensures that systems are scalable, secure, and optimized for performance. The Technical Architect collaborates closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, operations, cybersecurity, and business stakeholders, to deliver robust enterprise solutions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Develop, maintain, and govern enterprise architecture standards, frameworks, and reference models to ensure consistency and alignment across the organization. Define and maintain architectural roadmaps that guide technology evolution, modernization efforts, and long-term investment planning in support of business strategy.
  2. Lead the design of complex, multi-domain IT solutions encompassing infrastructure, cloud platforms, applications, and system integrations. Ensure solutions adhere to enterprise standards while meeting functional, performance, scalability, resiliency, and cost requirements.
  3. Continuously evaluate emerging technologies and industry trends to assess organizational relevance and maturity. Provide strategic recommendations and adoption roadmaps that align technology capabilities with business outcomes while minimizing risk.
  4. Partner with business stakeholders, project managers, and delivery teams to translate business requirements into clear, actionable technical architecture and design specifications. Ensure solutions accurately reflect business intent and are feasible, maintainable, and sustainable.
  5. Oversee architecture and design reviews for major initiatives to ensure compliance with enterprise standards and best practices. Validate solutions for scalability, security, performance, reliability, and operational readiness, and proactively identify and mitigate architectural risks.
  6. Provide technical leadership across engineering and development teams by guiding architectural decisions, promoting best practices, and mentoring architects and senior engineers. Foster a culture of continuous learning, technical excellence, and cross-team collaboration.
  7. Conduct architectural risk assessments and ensure solutions comply with organizational security standards, regulatory requirements, and industry's best practices. Collaborate with cybersecurity, risk, and compliance teams to embed controls and safeguards into system designs.
  8. Support resolution of complex, enterprise-level technical issues by guiding root-cause analysis and remediation efforts. Identify systemic architectural weaknesses and recommend long-term corrective actions to improve system stability and reliability.
  9. Evaluate third-party products, platforms, and services for architectural fit, security, and value. Contribute to vendor selection, contract evaluation, and ongoing vendor management to ensure alignment with enterprise architecture standards and strategic goals.
  10. Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Network Engineering, Industrial Automation, Electrical Engineering, or a related field is required. Minimum of five (5) years of combined experience in Network Administration, IT/OT systems, IT architecture, Systems Engineering solution design. Minimum of three (3) years of experience with industrial network protocols (e.g., Modbus, EtherNet/IP, Profinet, OPC UA, DNP3) is preferred. Related, relevant, and/or direct experience may be considered in lieu of minimum educational requirements indicated above. Experience designing enterprise-level systems, cloud architecture, and integrations is required. Hands‑on background with infrastructure, networking, cloud platforms, and application development is required. Experience leading cross-functional technical teams and large‑scale technology initiatives is required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSA)

Understanding of cybersecurity concepts and risk management for OT environments. Create architecture diagrams, technical reports, and maintain documentation. Ability to translate business needs into scalable technical designs. Ability to balance security, compliance, and operational efficiency. Ability to work in fast‑paced, high‑availability environments. Ability to lead cross‑functional design discussions and provide architectural guidance. Ability to drive standardization across gaming and hospitality business units. Experience with threat modeling and risk assessment. Familiarity with integration patterns: APIs, middleware, messaging, ETL, event‑driven architecture. Preferred: Experience with networking technologies. Experience with major industry platforms such as: Casino gaming systems: IGT Advantage, Aristocrat Oasis, Light & Wonder ACSC, Konami SYNKROS. Hotel PMS: Oracle OPERA, Agilysys. POS: InfoGenesis, MICROS Loyalty/CRM: Gaming‑focused loyalty or enterprise CRM tools. Experience working in regulated gaming markets. Experience with OT Industry systems: Deep understanding of IC/SCADA cybersecurity, network protocols, and industrial systems. Expertise in IT/OT convergence, architecture frameworks (NIST, NERC CIP, IEC 62443). Act as an authority, review designs, validate technical feasibility, and provide guidance on emerging OT technologies. Diagnose and resolve plant issues related to latency, interference, and other network root causes. Knowledge of real‑time data analytics, time‑series data, and IoT platforms.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS AND REGISTRATIONS

At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission, you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license. Any of the following certifications are preferred: Industrial Control System (ICS) certifications Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) – Industrial Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP/CCIE) ISA/IEC 62443 Cybersecurity Certification GIAC Global Industrial Cyber Security Professional (GICSP) CompTIA Network+ or Security+ Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) (Preferred for cybersecurity‑focused roles) Certifications such as TOGAF, ITIL, CISSP, CISM, or cloud architecture certifications (Azure/AWS/GCP). No Driving Responsibilities: Role does not require a driver’s license or insurance.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ WORKING CONDITIONS - ENVIRONMENT

Primary work environment is in a climate‑controlled office setting. Mission‑critical sectors like energy, utilities, manufacturing, and critical infrastructure. Incumbents may be required to work evening, weekend and holiday shifts. Must be able to work in a fast‑paced, high‑demand environment. Sedentary work: involves sitting most of the time. Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer. Visual acuity that meets the requirements of the position: The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; expansive reading and visual inspection of employees, visitors or facility. Mobility sufficient to safely move in an office environment, walk, stoop, bend and kneel, and enter, exit and operate a motor vehicle in the course of travel to promotional events, meetings, conferences, trade shows and San Manuel properties. Endurance sufficient to sit, walk and stand for extended periods, and maintain efficiency throughout the entire work shift and during extended work hours.
