Job description

Position advertised has been exempted from the federal civilian hiring freeze.

As an IT specialist, you will provide end‑user support, manage system configurations, and maintain IT infrastructure essential to FBI operations using enterprise software platforms, standardized ticketing systems, and hardware diagnostics protocols. Your role will involve resolving technical issues, implementing upgrades, and ensuring operational continuity across a range of workstations, servers, and network environments.

Salary Level

Pay level for this position: GS 11–12: $63,163.00–$98,422.00

Salary shown is the base salary for the grade levels. Salary is also commensurate with professional experience.

Major Duties
  • Provide technical support to all levels of personnel concerning the implementation and daily operations of the computer systems and individual microcomputer functions in the office.
  • Serve as point of contact for user complaints concerning computer malfunctions; analyze and troubleshoot error conditions of varying complexity.
  • Review operational needs to detect, diagnose, and resolve significant problems or error conditions relating to computer or related IT products and services.
  • Maintain and update inventory of computer equipment and identify their configuration and location within the office.
  • Support the planning, modification, or development of complex systems involving non‑standard Bureau operating systems or those involving complex integrated systems.
Specialized Experience
GS‑11
  • Configured, installed, repaired, and/or maintained computer networks, desktops, and mainframe operating systems.
  • Diagnosed and resolved system problems by analyzing problems and issues.
  • Worked with clients and customers to assess their needs; provided assistance, resolved problems, and provided quality products and services.
  • Provided advice and/or guidance to various levels of personnel regarding administrative and technical matters related to IT programs and/or service.
GS‑12
  • Managed short and long‑range IT projects.
  • Configured, installed, repaired, and maintained computer networks, desktops, and mainframe operating systems.
  • Diagnosed and resolved system problems by analyzing a variety of conditions, problems and issues regarding hardware, software, and networks.
  • Provided advice and/or guidance to various levels of personnel regarding administrative and technical matters related to IT programs and/or services.
Key Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must have (or be able to obtain) a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to obtain a Top Secret Clearance.
  • Must be willing to travel if required.
  • Must meet the FBI’s Employment Eligibility requirements.
Education and Experiential Requirements
Education
  • Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management from a U.S.-accredited college or university.

All degrees must be verified by submitting college transcripts.
