Job description

The Southern Environmental Law Center (SELC) is seeking an IT Project Coordinator. This position will be based in one of the following offices: Atlanta, GA; Chapel Hill, NC; or Charlottesville, VA. This individual will join our IT team and report to our Senior IT Project Manager. The IT Project Coordinator will support the planning and implementation of technology projects across SELC. This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly successful, nationally recognized organization that is effectively addressing some of the most pressing and challenging environmental issues throughout the South and the nation.

The ideal candidate has project management experience supporting IT‑related functions and initiatives. They are detail‑oriented and proactive, with the ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously in a fast‑paced environment while maintaining strong organization and follow through.

SELC has a hybrid work model that offers employees flexibility to work remotely up to two days per week. This is a full‑time, non‑exempt position with a 3‑year term limit, and employees must reside in our region.

Employment is contingent on successful completion of a criminal background check.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Assist the Senior IT Project Manager and IT staff with planning, scheduling, and coordinating IT project tasks and milestones.
  • Schedule calls, organize and facilitate project meetings, prepare agendas, and follow up on action items.
  • Update and manage project management tools and dashboards (such as Monday.com) to ensure current, accurate tracking of project progress, action items, and potential risks or issues.
  • Maintain comprehensive project documentation—including scope documents, status reports, and meeting minutes.
  • Assist with training staff in new technologies or process changes, and support change management activities, such as drafting emails or developing other plans to inform staff of upcoming changes.
  • Assist with testing technology and drafting or editing how‑to guides, process documents, and governance documents.
  • Coordinate resource allocation among project teams and ensure team members have the information they need.
  • Assist the Senior IT Project Manager and other IT staff with communication between technical team, different departments, business leads, and leadership.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in IT project coordination or a related role.
  • Familiarity with project management methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid).
  • Proficiency with project management tools (e.g., Microsoft Project, Planner, Asana, Monday.com, Jira etc.).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Foundational understanding of IT concepts (infrastructure, software development life cycle, ITIL, Azure services etc.).
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with IT and business teams.
Desired Qualifications
  • Project Management certifications such as CAMP, PMP, Scrum Master, or similar.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft 365 (Teams, SharePoint, CoPilot, Power Automate).
  • Experience with legal applications and processes, such as Document Management Systems, e‑discovery, and/or legal AI.

SELC offers salaries competitive with other leading environmental nonprofits nationally and provides an excellent benefits package. The wage range for this full‑time and nonexempt position is $27.94/hour – $33.56/hour, based on experience. The annualized equivalent is approximately $57,000 – $69,800, assuming full‑time hours. SELC is a PSLF (Public Service Loan Forgiveness) eligible employer.

All employees are required to reside in our region. SELC will provide relocation reimbursement up to a specific dollar amount for those relocating at least 50 miles from their current primary residence.
