Job summary

Position Summary

At Houston Methodist, the IT Program Manager position is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating inter-related projects to ensure goals and objectives of the program are accomplished within prescribed time frame, funding parameters and requirements. This may include enterprise wide projects. Organizes and prioritizes the inter-related projects to ensure alignment with the organization's strategic goals working closely with IT Project Management Leadership and stakeholders across the organization including Sr. and Executive Leadership. Coordinates and manages program resources availability and allocation.

Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, or related discipline with an information technology focus.
  • Experience: Eight years of successful experience in implementing IT multi-project activities, preferably in a healthcare environment.
  • Licenses and Certifications (Preferred): PMP - Certified Project Management Professional (PMI) and PROSCI - Certified in Prosci Change Management (PROSCI)
  • Skills and Abilities:
    • Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through on-going skills, competency assessments, and performance evaluations.
    • Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially with regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety or security.
    • Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles.
    • Project management skills with ability to multitask and manage multiple projects in a cross-functional environment.
    • Ability to deliver projects using leading-edge technology.
    • Strong knowledge of current technologies.
    • Strong knowledge and understanding of business needs, with the ability to establish and maintain a high level of customer trust and confidence.

Essential Functions
People Essential Functions
  • Effectively communicates program information to stakeholders throughout the organization utilizing agreed upon channels and timelines.
  • Leads program-related meetings with authority and gains consensus on outcomes and goals.
  • Coaches operational leaders on PMO standards for operational projects.
Service Essential Functions
  • Plans, organizes and coordinates related IT projects and programs to obtain identified strategic goals. Ensures outcomes match agreed upon customer expectations and outcomes. Formulates and defines scope and objectives of coordinated projects.
  • Reviews inter-related projects to determine priority, time frame, funding limitations, procedures for accomplishing project. Determines staffing requirements, and allotment of available department resources.
  • Facilitates governance process and supports IT owners in formulating business cases for presentation to appropriate council(s).
Quality/Safety Essential Functions
  • Ensures adherence to standards and procedures for project initiation, planning, execution, control, monitoring, and closure defined by the Portfolio & Process Management Office for all projects within the program.
  • Creates and updates program documentation and reports.
  • Ensures consistent implementation of governance, work plan and staffing for each phase of the project within a program.
  • Facilitates the onboarding and training of new project managers and contractors to Houston Methodist project management process and procedures.
Finance Essential Functions
  • Consolidates project expenditure and forecasts information within the program.
  • Validates budget, actuals, forecast and variance cost with management.
  • Ensure all projects within the program have properly closed project expenditures.
Growth/Innovation Essential Functions
  • Proposes opportunities to improve the Portfolio & Process Management Office and leads improvement initiatives by planning, implementing and ensuring adoption. Stays up to date on knowledge of applicable industry standards, guidelines and technology trends and seeks opportunities to share expertise with more junior project management team members.
  • Proactively manages own professional development and completes Individual Development Plan (IDP).
