The goal of Billerud’s co-op program is to cultivate the development of potential future engineering and leadership resources for our organization while providing high-quality process support to the mill’s operations group(s). Co-op assignments are structured to provide candidates with opportunities to grow and develop in their chosen discipline as well as educate them on various career paths within the organization. Although there is no guarantee of future employment, our goal is to have our Co-ops fully capable of stepping into a full-time engineering position within our organization by the end of the program.

This is a full-time paid co-op position within our Manufacturing Applications, Reporting, and Analytics team for aduration of 7-8 months. The co-op will interact with the other members of the applications team as well as business users to design, develop, configure, enhance, and support both new and existing applications and reporting systems.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Support end users in the use of Billerud’s applications
  • Develop and enhance both new and existing applications and reports
  • Migration/conversion of existing applications, reports, and/or interfaces
  • Deliver projects as assigned
  • Development of application process maps and other procedural documentation
  • Research new technologies to solve business problems
  • Routine progress reports to IT leadership
  • Participating in IT cross-functional or project teams as needed
  • Complete university requirements for co-op program

Required Experience and Education:

  • Currently enrolled in 4-year IT related degrees (Management Information Systems, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Analytics, or equivalent)
  • Must have completed three semesters of college education prior to Co-op start date
  • Experience working on a team
  • Strong communication skills and ability to read, write, understand, and follow technical documentation
  • Commitment to quality customer support
  • Strong interpersonal skills, able to relate to all levels of the Billerud organization
  • Must demonstrate initiative and be self-motivated
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Must be available to work one of two Co-op rotations which run either January through August or May through December.

Required skills:

  • Skilled at using Microsoft Windows and Office Suite
  • Understanding of application development process
  • Understanding of database design and architecture
  • Commitment to working safely
  • Must possess strong communication and teamwork skills, with a desire to learn in a work environment that is modeled after a full-time engineering experience
  • Must be legally authorized to work permanently in the United States for other than practical training (Student work VISA does not qualify).
