C5R is seeking an IT engineer to own the computers, accounts, networks, and office technology that enable scientists and engineers to work securely and reliably. You will be responsible for provisioning and managing Apple and Linux machines, and for building workflows that automate enrollment, configuration, software deployment, and patching.
You will manage identity and access, Google Workspace, SSO, and access controls, making onboarding and offboarding straightforward.
C5R builds research facilities for frontier models: physical environmentswhere models can design experiments, operate instruments, learn fromresults, and be evaluated on real scientific work.
We build facilities end to end, bringing together the physical site, instruments, robotics, software, and operations. By working closely withmodel developers, we continuously produce the data and physical feedbacktheir models need for pretraining, lab-in-the-loop post-training, andevaluation.
We need an IT engineer to make the systems our team relies on simple, reliable, and secure. You will own the computers, accounts, networks, and office technology that let people do their work, and write softwareto make those systems easier to operate as we grow.
We think from first principles and take the time to understand a problembefore building the solution. We prefer boring, well-understood technology(Linux, Postgres, HTTP) over clever or fashionable alternatives, and webuild our own tools when off-the-shelf options would cost more than theysave or provide a mediocre experience. We use AI liberally to write code, but we design and maintain our algorithms and architecture judiciously.
You enjoy helping people and take responsibility for getting thingsworking. You can debug a network or operating system problem, writescripts and use APIs, and explain what happened clearly. You care aboutthe details of both the systems you build and the experience of thepeople using them.
Experience with device management, identity systems, and networking isuseful. We care more about your judgment, curiosity, and ability tolearn than a particular certification or number of years in IT. Youshould be comfortable moving between hands-on support and writingsoftware that prevents the next problem.
