Job summary

Banner Health seeks an experienced IT Clinical Application Support Manager to lead clinical application support across facilities, driving service quality and aligning IT operations with patient care goals.

You will direct teams, collaborate with health-system leaders, implement best practices, ensure regulatory compliance, and oversee EHR clinical documentation support, including Cerner Millennium experience.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field or equivalent education and experience.
  • Advanced level working knowledge of IT/clinical informatics in a healthcare setting.
  • Typically with at least five years total experience, including a minimum of two years in management within a healthcare system or large complex corporate environment.
  • Substantial knowledge of information technology and/or clinical informatics in a healthcare setting.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and negotiation skills to engage both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Leadership skills, including recruiting, mentoring, motivating, evaluating, and retaining staff.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in system-level initiatives; provides operational leadership in the support of clinical applications, incorporates best practices, responds to emerging trends, and enhances operational efficiency through process improvement.
  • Collaborates with business leaders and senior IT leaders to identify operational requirements and opportunities related to IT Clinical Application Support, communicating facility/business goals to IT leadership and engaging stakeholders in strategy development.
  • Directs and participates in the development, implementation, and consistent application of effective organizational policies, procedures, and practices to comply with current laws and regulations, and to continuously improve clinical functionality across the continuum of care.
  • Serves as a subject-matter expert, leading task forces, teams, or councils to plan, implement, and coordinate programs, services, and activities for the department; maintains up-to-date knowledge of clinical applications, healthcare trends, regulatory and accreditation standards, and specialty area best practices.
  • Provides direction and oversight for IT clinical application support activities across select facilities, regions or specialties, partnering with IT leaders, staff, and corporate and facility/business leadership.

Position Summary

This position is responsible for the operational management of IT Clinical Application Support services necessary to achieve the organization’s strategies and initiatives with focus on quality of outcomes and superior service. The role spans multiple locations, including user level support, IT project implementations and facility-initiated projects such as support for clinical documentation applications within the electronic health record (EHR). The incumbent directs the activities of the IT Clinical Application Support teams in support of customer interactions, internal documentation standards, and operational oversight related to clinical documentation in the EHR.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field or equivalent education and experience.
  • Advanced level working knowledge of principles, practices, and operations in an IT/clinical informatics setting, typically with at least five years total experience, including a minimum of two years in management within a healthcare system or large complex corporate environment.
  • Substantial knowledge of information technology and/or clinical informatics in a healthcare setting.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and negotiation skills to engage both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Leadership skills, including recruiting, mentoring, motivating, evaluating, and retaining staff.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Information Technology management experience in a large healthcare environment.
  • Experience with direct patient care as a licensed professional within an acute care community hospital and/or ambulatory practice.
  • Experience using and supporting electronic health record systems, ideally Cerner Millennium.
  • Additional related education and/or experience.
