Job summary

GCS Recruitment is seeking an ISP Fiber Eng to physically install, rack and stack fiber infrastructure inside data centers and POP sites in the Chicago area. This onsite role focuses on practical installation, cabling, and documentation, not design or testing.

You will read floor plans and port maps to execute installations, terminate patches, and ensure proper cable management while following safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience in a data center or ISP fiber environment.
• Direct experience with rack and stack including racks, cabinets, and cable management.
• Experience running, routing, and terminating fiber optic cabling.
• Ability to read floor plans, rack elevations, or port maps.
• Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 pounds and stand for long periods.

Responsibilities

• Perform rack and stack installations, mounting cabinets, racks, cable trays, and fiber raceways.
• Install, route, and dress fiber optic cabling in data center and POP sites.
• Terminate fiber patch cords and connect equipment to distribution panels and frames.
• Read and execute installations from floor plans, rack elevations, and port maps.
• Perform basic fiber testing to confirm connectivity after installation.
• Maintain cable management, labeling, and documentation standards on each build.
• Coordinate with project management and engineering to meet delivery timelines.
• Follow safety procedures and quality standards on every site.

How Youll Help Us Connect the World:

As an ISP Fiber Eng, you will be responsible for the hands on installation, racking, and cabling of fiber and network infrastructure supporting inside plant (ISP) environments, including data center/POP site. This is an onsite, physical role centered on rack and stack work and fiber installation, not primarily fiber testing or design. You will work directly inside customer facilities in the Chicago area, executing installations to plan and to CommScope standards.

• Performing rack and stack installations, including mounting cabinets, racks, cable trays, and fiber raceways
• Installing, routing, and dressing fiber optic cabling throughout data center and POP site environments
• Terminating fiber patch cords and connecting equipment to fiber distribution panels and optical distribution frames
• Reading and executing installations from approved floor plans, rack elevations, and port maps
• Performing basic fiber testing to confirm connectivity following installation
• Maintaining proper cable management, labeling, and documentation standards throughout each build
• Coordinating with project management and engineering teams to meet delivery timelines
• Following established safety procedures and quality standards on every site

Required Qualifications for Consideration

• Experience working hands on in a data center or ISP fiber environment
• Direct experience with rack and stack installation, including racks, cabinets, and cable management
• Experience running, routing, and terminating fiber optic cabling
• Comfortable reading and working from floor plans, rack elevations, or port maps
• Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 pounds and work on your feet for extended periods
• Reliable transportation to Chicago area customer sites
• Strong communication and customer service skills
