Job summary

Preferred Risk Insurance is seeking an iSeries Developer to strengthen and modernize core applications on the AS/400 platform in a stable insurance environment. The role involves development, analysis, and maintenance with RPG IV/ILE, SQL, and API/web service integrations, using Visual Studio Code and AI-assisted tools to drive modernization efforts.

Collaborate with IT and business users, perform code reviews, and produce design docs.

Qualifications

• Experience delivering full lifecycle of complex systems (requirements, design, build, test, deployment).
• Strong knowledge of RPG IV/ILE, RPG Free, SQL with embedded SQL, and CL on iSeries.
• Experience with Visual Studio Code and IBM i extensions is a plus.
• Understanding of Property and Casualty insurance principles.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field preferred.
• Excellent problem-solving and attention to detail.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team and communicate with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Enhance and support core business applications in RPG IV/ILE and Free form.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and create specifications.
• Conduct code reviews, unit testing, and coordinate with IT on development and QA tasks.
• Create technical design documentation for projects.
• Implement and maintain development standards and deployment processes.
• Contribute to modernization using SQL, APIs/web services, and AI tools.
• Assist with IT Help Desk tickets for production issues as needed.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues to ensure performance and reliability.
