Job summary

Modern Technology Solutions, Inc. (MTSI) in Colorado Springs seeks an IS Systems Administrator to manage Classified and Unclassified systems, patching, and security hardening. The role supports end-user IT and collaborates with the ISS team on RMF/NIST compliance.

You will configure Active Directory, manage Intune/MDM, and ensure VPN access while maintaining SIEM-ready documentation and adherence to SLAs.

Qualifications

• Experience in classified environments and RMF/NIST guidance.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent with DoD IT role experience.

• Intune

The IS Systems Administrator is responsible for administering and supporting Collateral, Special Access Program (SAP), and Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) information systems. This role performs system administration and cybersecurity functions for Classified systems, including antivirus management, patching, and overall system health. It also provides end‑user support for Unclassified enterprise systems. Key responsibilities include installing software releases and system upgrades, applying patches, and resolving server and desktop issues. The administrator also troubleshoots network performance problems, maintains disaster recovery plans, and ensures routine system backups and restoration capabilities. This dual‑role position supports both Classified environments and the Unclassified enterprise. The Senior IS Service Desk Administrator also delivers customer service and technical support as part of the Service Desk team and contributes to the development and improvement of IT practices, procedures, and concepts within the organization.

Responsibilities

• Support classified customer networks extended to our sites.
• Diagnose Windows 11, Office 365 and other application issues
• Track and maintain computer assets using asset management tools
• Work with the Information Systems Security Team to configure systems in accordance with the NIST 800-53 framework.
• Set up new hire computer equipment and VoIP Phones
• Administer Active Directory Users and Groups on the domain
• Assist users with remote access through VPN.
• Ensure all ticket communication & follow up in a timely manner based on established SLA
• Diagnose and fix problems with Laptops and Desktops, as company standard hardware.
• Deploy, diagnose, and fix problems with iPhone and Android smartphones (MDM)
• Review current system and make technical/process recommendations for improving efficiency
• Implement and maintain security standards, procedures, and guidelines for multiple platforms
• Keep deployed systems up to date with OS, hardware and software patches and upgrades
• Demonstrate professionalism in response to customer requests
• Coordinate with customers to upgrade, retire or consolidate applications and server hardware as appropriate
• Research and/or contact vendors regarding technical problems and solutions

Classified System Administration Experience Should Include

• Experience administering systems in a classified environment
• Patching and Security hardening of classified systems
• Basic knowledge of federal security requirements and mandates [e.g., RMF, Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS), National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)]
• Security hardening and Certification & Accreditation experience desirable

Technical Experience Should Include

• Strong Microsoft Windows background
• Knowledge of various computer software applications, hardware platforms, networking components and LAN/WAN architecture
• Experience installing, configuring, and troubleshooting Windows Operating Systems
• Installation and configuration of hardware and software
• Active Directory user account configuration and maintenance
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (365 experience preferred)
• Experience troubleshooting common networking issues on client systems
• Strong knowledge of standard networking protocols such as TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, and network hardware such as switches and routers

General Experience Should Include

Desired Experience Should Include

• An industry certification such as A+, Network +, MCSA, etc.
• Basic Microsoft Entra understanding
• ITSM preferably ServiceNow
• Intune
• Endpoint Management tools, preferably ManageEngine
• Microsoft 365 Administration

Minimum Training/Education Required

• Security +
• Bachelor’s, degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related technical degree, or equivalent years of experience
• Minimum of four (4) years of experience in Service Desk environment supporting classified information systems

Clearance Requirements

• Current DoD TOP SECRET clearance preferred but secret to start is acceptable.

The pay range for this position in Colorado is $90K/year to $115K/year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on established government contract ranges, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, and other factors. MTSI also offers a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits, dependent on the position offered. Base pay information is based on market location.
