Job summary

Xanterra Travel Collection is seeking an Irrigation Technician to maintain irrigation systems at the Oasis at Death Valley. You will monitor turf and plant conditions, adjust watering to prevent over- or under-watering, and report issues to the grounds supervisor.

The role offers a 40-hour work week, a start date ASAP, and a pay rate of $21.25 per hour. The Oasis features housing options, on-site meals, and park perks as part of the team.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of basic electrical and hydraulics related to irrigation systems.
• Ability to operate light motorized equipment.
• Knowledge of tools, methods and materials used in grounds maintenance.
• Ability to follow oral and written directions.
• Valid California Driver’s License
• High school diploma or GED
• Minimum 6 months of relevant experience with irrigation parts.

Responsibilities

• Maintain assigned irrigation area.
• Repair pipe breaks (PVC and Poly).
• Troubleshoot malfunctioning sprinkler heads.
• Identify and repair electrical problems.
• Maintain and correct irrigation clock problems.
• Spot-water dry areas.
• Document daily activities; repair records.
• Conduct visual inspections of areas.
• Familiarize irrigation systems via plans and as-builts.
• Assist with irrigation projects and startup/winterizing.
• Assist with daily grounds maintenance.
• Apply preventive maintenance for irrigation efficiency.
• Maintain clean, organized workstations in irrigation areas.
• Recognize safety hazards and act accordingly.
• Other duties as assigned.

The Oasis at Death Valley is situated in a lush, spring-fed desert oasis, surrounded by the vast and arid desert of Death Valley National Park. The Oasis operates the historic AAA Four Diamond Inn and Ranch, restaurants, gift shops, and the world's lowest elevation golf course. Both hotels are open year-round and feature swimming pools fed by naturally warm local springs.

At The Oasis at Death Valley, irrigation is part of a unique water recycling system built around our property’s natural spring water pools. Spring water flows through the pools on our property for our guests to enjoy before flowing into a series of collection ponds, which have been recognized by Audubon International as wildlife habitat. From there, it is pumped throughout the property for landscape and golf course irrigation. This system allows the same water resource to serve multiple purposes, making irrigation operations an important part of the Oasis’s broader sustainability and water recycling efforts and a rare, world-class example of large-scale water recycling system within the hospitality industry.

Job Summary

Maintain and manage irrigation systems and performance by observation of turf and plant material conditions at the Oasis at Death Valley. This position will implement corrective action for over-watering or lack of watering and report problems to grounds supervisor. Our mission is to provide legendary service to our guests visiting from all over the world, and your work is instrumental to our success!

The Details

Position Type: Full-time Year-round

Start Dates: As soon as possible on next available check in date (approximately three weeks)

Pay: $21.25/hr

Schedule: Typical schedule is 40 hours, 5 days/per week (may include weekends, evenings, and holidays)

• Minimum 6 months of relevant experience and basic knowledge of irrigation parts.

Physical Requirements include

• Must be able to lift 50 lbs. up to shoulder height.
• Must be able to withstand working in extreme temperatures.
• Must be able to work on feet for at least 8 hours per day.
