Requirements

The Turf Care Technician is responsible for assisting our team to promote healthy growth and beautify lawns, and plantings. We will improve overall health and client’s safety by the troubleshooting, service, and repair of irrigation, lighting, pond, and other systems. The Irrigation and Service Technician completes all required service calls and system checks, assets with the overall health and development of healthy growth of plants, healthy turf, and solves client problems related to proper watering and safety. The Irrigation and Service Technician will also check and repair low voltage landscape lighting systems, service garden ponds and waterfalls. The Irrigation and Service Technician readily seeks out ways to help promote the beauty and value of our clients’ properties and outdoor living environment.

This position reports to the president or assistant and does not supervise any other team members.

Knowledge, SKILLS, and Abilities

Required:

  • Excellent verbal communication skills and ability to build rapport with others
  • Observational and analytical problem-solving skills, including an eye for spotting potential lawn or landscaping issues early on and the ability to accurately assess the problem and identify the specific solution
  • Ability and desire to communicate and interact with others professionally, to please customers, and to express sincere concern for customer needs
  • Meet with customers and potential customers to carefully inspect, diagnose, and/or verify lawn weed/pest-related problems. Advise customers of facts and solutions. Educate customers on irrigation and mowing techniques, cultural practices, and health, safety, and environmental issues.
  • Monitor progress of service to ensure effective results. Follow up with any additional necessary corrective or other action.
  • Research information, when necessary, to verify proper operation and be aware of related problems.
  • Respond to customer service calls and follow up with customers to ensure problems have been solved satisfactorily.
  • Continually build relationships with customers and, at all times, promote excellent customer service, quality work, integrity, and professionalism.
  • Pro-actively identify lawn/plant development needs that promote the healthy growth of the turf and of plant materials. Offer suggestions and follow through, as needed.
  • High school education diploma or equivalent.

Preferred

  • Previous Irrigation and Service Technician experience
  • Knowledge of common regional plants, irrigation and watering needs, drainage needs, different turfs and plant water needs, lighting system knowledge, pump knowledge.
Licenses
  • Valid North Carolina driver’s license that is not currently suspended or revoked (driving record must meet the insurance carrier’s policy requirements and Paradise Landscaping driving standard
Position Duties and Functions
  • Troubleshoot, assess needs, and repair irrigation systems, lighting systems, and pond systems. Repairs must be made in a timely manner and be completed in a timely manner.
  • Inventory and order parts pertaining to the irrigation, service, lighting, and pond position.
  • Research information when necessarily to ensure industry standards are being exceeded and quality products are being used.
  • Safely operate equipment and perform safety checks and daily maintenance of all equipment. Prepare the truck for daily service stop, including but not limited to loading supplies, equipment, and products, and obtaining any necessary customer documentation. When returning to GLC at the end of the day, unload the truck and ensure all company supplies, equipment, and products are secured.
  • Attend all required meeting or inspections pertaining to relevant jobs.
  • Stay abreast of current industry trends, regulations, technical data, new products, safety standards, equipment, and others.
  • Communicate to management client's property conditions and other field issues. This includes but is not limited to informing management of any customer issues or concerns that are not completely resolved to the satisfaction of the customer and reporting any damage that occurs as a result of service.
  • Complete assigned account documentation tasks using a company-provided mobile tablet.
  • Operate and maintain assigned equipment to perform applications.

  • Assist with other routes as needed or specific customers as assigned.

Summary

WORKING CONDITIONS

Requires frequent contact with customers, and coworkers. Work is performed outdoors, digging is required, with exposure to all weather elements. Exposure to grasses, weeds, outdoor plants, and associated irrigation and lighting products. Work involves constant use of industry equipment, materials, and products. Work involves daily travel throughout the community and work area.

This position requires full-time hours Monday through Friday, in addition to extended workdays, overtime, and weekend work as needed. This position also requires regular, punctual attendance. All work for this position must be performed on-site at PL customer properties or at PL company offices.

SPECIAL EQUIPMENT

Must possess ability to operate irrigation troubleshooting tools and equipment including, but not limited to: pvc pipe tools, electric line locator equipment, lawn hoses, irrigation equipment, hand and carpenter tools, truck equipment, safety equipment, and others. Must be able to operate a vehicle and mobile tablet
